Chandler Center for the Arts Announces its 2018 ‘On the House’ Free Summer Concert Series
Say Hello to Summer with Five Great Performances, July through September
CHANDLER, Ariz. – [June 6, 2018] – Chandler Center for the Arts announced today its full lineup for its annual “On the House” free summer concert series, running July 27 to September 9. In its 22nd year, Valley residents can say hello to summer and beat the heat with five concerts that span different music genres, including Country, Jazz, Irish, Americana and Flamenco.
The concert series kicks off with a captivating Spanish evening when Jácome Flamenco presents CUATRO, a fiery display of guitar, dance and song on Friday, July 27, at 7:30 p.m. Featured on the Emmy award-winning PBS special “Flamenco,” guitarist and artistic director Chris Jácome transports audiences to the streets of Seville as the four spectacular performers bring their intense vocals and movement for a thrilling blend of traditional and modern flamenco.
Next are local favorites Blaine Long and Rosas del Rey. The country, rock, rhythm and blues group bring their unique guitar, smooth percussion and soulful vocals on Friday, August 3, at 7:30 p.m. After releasing his ninth album and a successful audition on NBC’s “The Voice,” Blaine Long, along with bass guitarist Marcus Weeden, drummer David Libman and blues guitarist Drew Hall of Rosas del Rey, will deliver the perfect tunes for a summer evening.
Concert goers will be swept away by the smooth summer sounds of Leonard Patton and the Danny Green Trio for a relaxing night of cool jazz on Friday, August 17, at 7:30 p.m. This up-and-coming band meets at the intersection of jazz and the hits of such favorite pop artists as Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder and the Beatles.
Music enthusiasts can revel in the spirit of Americana as Finnegan Blue performs a night of Irish and Bluegrass originals as well as eclectic cover tunes spanning the Grateful Dead, The Pogues, Flogging Molly, Sublime and Amy Winehouse on Friday, August 24, at 7:30 p.m. The sibling duo of Anna Lee and Willie Fleming thrill audiences with their talents on guitar, trombones, and mandolin while band-mates Ricky Giordano (Electric Guitar), Ronnie Valles (Drum Kit and Percussion), and Oskar Beckmann (Electric Bass) bring it home.
Closing out the series will be Jazz from the Silver Screen with Dmitri Matheny Group, featuring Holly Pyle on Sunday, September 9 at 3:00 p.m. Jazz from the Silver Screen will take audiences on a silver-screen journey from the 1930s to today that includes images and music. Award-winning flugelhorn master Dmitri Matheny and “soulfully graceful” vocalist Holly Pyle lead an all-star band. The music lineup includes musical classics from “The Wizard of Oz,” “The Godfather,” “Empire Strikes Back,” “Blade Runner” and “Manchester by the Sea.”
