Salsa-riachi! comes to Tempe Center for the Arts when Carmela Ramirez and her Latin jazz salsa band Más join forces with Mariachi Pasión, a Valley-based all-female mariachi group, to create an evening of Latin musical fusion. These award-winning performers, presented by Lakeshore Music, a charitable nonprofit, have delighted audiences at local venues and internationally with their rich culture, heritage and customs. Carmela Ramirez, a Latin jazz, classic jazz and R&B vocalist, and Más have been awarded Best of Phoenix Latin Band, Best R&B Band, Best Fusion and Best Vocalist. Más performs sizzling Afro-Cuban rhythms, from salsa, merengue and cha-cha to traditional and fusion stylings of Latin jazz. Mariachi Pasion, formed in 2002, started in a music class at Arizona State University when eight girls thought it would be fun to play for a close relative.
