Hashknife Pony Express Mail Delivery and Community Celebration
Western Spirit: Scottsdale’s Museum of the West
3830 N. Marshall Way, Scottsdale, AZ 85251
Living history arrives at the museum’s doorstep when the oldest officially sanctioned Pony Express (celebrating its 60th year) blazes a trail from Holbrook, Arizona to downtown Scottsdale on horseback, covering a relay mail route of over 200 miles. The annual delivery of 20,000 pieces of first-class mail bearing the coveted “Hashknife Pony Express” indicia occurs at 12 p.m. Free, outdoor activities scheduled between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. include such family-friendly games and activities as storytelling, face painting and crafts; a horse and rider meet and greet and autograph party following the mail delivery; and live entertainment. Food and beverage will be available for purchase from food trucks.
The outdoor events are free to the public; admission to the museum galleries is free, with a suggested donation of $5 for adults and $2 for children/students. Part of the City of Scottsdale’s Western Week. For more information contact the museum at 480-686-9539 or visit hashknifeponyexpress.com or scottsdalemuseumwest.org.
