FAMILY FUN THROUGHOUT THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER 2017AT THE VALLEY’S POPULAR BUTERFLY WONDERLAND

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.— Guests are invited to visit Butterfly Wonderland, one of Scottsdale’s most admired indoor attractions during the month of September for special activities including a Labor Day celebration, a dedicated Senior Day, Back to School Drive, Yoga in the Rainforest, a Cell Phone Photography Class, Teacher Open House, Butterfly Brush Strokes event FREE face painting every Saturday and Sunday from10am-4pm, a Monarch tagging field trip and more! Sundays, Sept. 10 and Sept. 24

11am-3pm

Music and Butterflies

Guests will elevate their experience with music by Native American musician, Aaron White as he performs live in the lobby. FREE with admission

 

Back-to-School Supply Drive

Sept. 9-10

9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Guests are encouraged to bring a bag of much needed school supplies (pencils, notebooks, markers, crayons, hand sanitizers, etc.) to Butterfly Wonderland and receive one child admission free with the purchase of an adult admission ticket. Supplies benefit local Title One low-income schools in need and the Butterfly Wonderland 501c3 Foundation. 

 

Monarch Butterfly Tagging Trip to Southern Arizona

Sunday, Sept. 10 – 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Meet in Southern Arizona to learn how to tag Monarch butterflies with Director of Education Adriane Grimaldi and volunteer Tommy Tucker. Guests will observe Monarchs in their natural habitat as they make their way to Mexico. The terrain is level, however there are some uneven areas so proper shoes are recommended. Guests are encouraged to bring a camera, hat, water, sunscreen and a sack lunch. Cost is $20 for members; $25 for general public. Proceeds benefit the Butterfly Wonderland 501c3 Foundation and Southwest Monarch Study. Pre-registration is required. Story Time for Tots

10 a.m. -11 a.m.

Tots, ages 2-5 enjoy story time in the birthday room, including fun education, stories and crafts featuring butterflies, caterpillars and more! FREE with admission; attendees are eligible for 10% off an annual pass.

 

Saturday, Sept. 16

Cell Phone Photography Class

8:30am-10:30am

Guests will learn the tips and tricks for taking beautiful nature photographs with smartphones! This class will be taught by Paul Valach. The cost is $20/person; free for members. Call (480) 800-3000, ext. 210 for reservations.

Concert in the Conservatory

Every 3rd Saturday, guests elevate their experience in our Conservatory with live musical performances. FREE with admission

Homeschool Days

Guests are encouraged to reserve their Homeschool students for a field trip. Special pricing is available by going to the website.  Click on “Plan Your Event/Homeschools.” Pre-registration is required.

Teacher Open House - New Science Curriculum

See what an amazing and educational field trip Butterfly Wonderland can be for the classroom. Lakeshore Learning will be onsite to offer craft ideas for butterfly, reptile and amphibian and rainforest themes.  Teachers will learn information about how to book a field trip. Teachers can win gift baskets and enter to win a raffle prize of a FREE FIELD TRIP (Winner wins free admission for up to 60 students) RSVP at (480) 800-3000, ext. 210. Event is reserved for teachers only; ID required.

10 a.m. to Noon

Understanding the Monarch Migration

Guests are invited to come watch the full-length version of the film “Flight of the Butterflies” and learn about the history of the monarch tagging program and the citizen scientist that created it. Cost is free for Members; $10 for general public plus admission. Fees support the Butterfly Wonderland Foundation. Limit 12 people. Pre-registration is required.
