GennaroGarciaGennaro Garcia is a truly dynamic man that never stops, constantly creating in various mediums including painting, woodwork, prints, ceramics, wearables, and murals!

He has had a passion for art since childhood, growing up in what he calls an artistic home. Describing his work and style “Combining Italian techniques from working with oils, acrylics, wood, plaster and a vibrant color palette from his childhood in Mexico”, said Garcia. He is also the Cofounder of Calle16 Mural Project, which is “a nonprofit group that creates incredible murals that truly represent the diverse communities that live in Phoenix.”Woodcarving Garcia

Garcia creates vibrant paintings such as “La Sublime” an intimate portrait of Freda Kahlo, and striking woodwork pieces that are both intricate and colorful such as with “The Tree of Life Guadeloupian”. Recently he released a hugely successful series of hand painted ceramics and cutting boards titled “Hecho a Mano” (handmade) featuring striking imagery that references to Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead).

The inspiration behind is artwork is what he calls “his dual identities as both Mexican and now American” as well as his catholic upbringing, which is prevalent throughout his work. He has participated in more than 60 exhibitions in the last 4 years and he is currently exhibiting in 12 different galleries around the United States and Mexico. Garcia has had a productive 2014 with his artwork featured in numerous group exhibitions and special projects along with becoming the resident artist at Xico Inc.- Latin & Native American Arts Organization, who was instrumental in helping propel his work to the next level! He is also an avid chef and a recent restaurateur in his hometown in Sonora Mexico.

What is next for this artist and where can you see his work? Garcia has a packed schedule for 2015, from selling his artwork and wares at 3 different airports, multiple mural projects, and exhibitions. He will be exhibiting a new collection of work this January at Gallo Blanco located at the Clarendon Hotel.

Garcia has brought together his passions of art and food with a new series he will be doing throughout 2015 at various venues in Arizona, California, and Mexico titled “My Art, My Food”. He kicks off this brilliant series in February at Phoenix Public Market where he will be cooking with chef Aaron Chamberlain.
