The Tucson Pops has been performing free concerts in the park for 57 years, and this year the concerts will be under the direction of Laszlo Veres. Although the organization usually plays four concerts, it has had to reduce the number to three due to sponsor funding cuts and a slow economy. Financial issues, however, will not keep the organization from playing and having fun while doing it.

The concerts will take place at the DeMeester Outdoor Performance Center in Reid Park on Sunday evenings, September 9, 16, and 23. Performances start at 7 p.m. The concert series is sponsored by Long Realty Companies, Friends of the Pops, Tucson Parks and Recreation Department, Rosemont Copper, Tucson Pima Arts Council, and the Arizona Commission of the Arts. With such a complete list of sponsors, it is no wonder why the Tucson Pops has stolen the hearts of locals.

On September 9, a variety of classics and favorites including a tribute to the late Marvin Hamlisch and more, will be featured. This performance aims to draw attention to the many talents of the orchestra.

On September 16, the concert will feature the Brubaker brothers performing the Double Concerto for Violin and Cello by Brahms.

Finally, September 21 will feature Star Trek Through the Years, My Fair Lady selections, Beethoven’s Allegretto from Symphony No. 7, and Rossini’s William Tell Overture.

All concerts are free and open to the public. Don’t miss your opportunity to enjoy classic orchestra music with other local lovers of music.
