Description

(Tucson, Arizona) – 1/22/2019- Girl Scout cookie sales are beginning soon, a venture that Debbie Rich, CEO for Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona, called the “biggest girl-led entrepreneurship program in the world.”Trusting Connections, an award-winning local nanny agency and sitter service run by two female UA grads, has made another big promise to Tucson Girl Scouts. For the fourth year in a row, the agency is continuing its annual event aimed at supporting girl scouts and encouraging young girls in their efforts to learn business and leadership skills. On Thursday,February 7th, Co-Founders Rosalind Prather and Caroline Wesnitzer are hosting their annual event in which they vow to purchase cookies from every girl scout that visits between 3:30pm and 5:30pm. This year, the event will be held at the Girl Scout offices on Broadway. In the spirit of the educational purpose of this program, each girl is asked to give a brief sales pitch before being invited to draw from a jar that will contain notes indicating how many boxes the agency will purchase from one to up to 25 boxes. This very well-received event gains popularity each year. Last year, girls and their parents were lined up and spilling out the doors ready to give their pitch. Some girl scouts brought hand-crafted business cards and others came prepared with a catchy sales jingle. “There is an inevitable tear or two shed at these events because it is so incredibly touching to hear the girls’ stories and to watch their confidence grow,” says Prather. “Caroline and I always walk away feeling like we gained just as much as we hope the girls did.”When asked what spurred this annual event, Prather explained, “Caroline and I became business owners at the age of 24 and we attribute our success to the many people who believed in us. The Girl Scouts organization self-identifies as being‘2.7 million strong-1.9 million girls and 800,000 adults who believe girls can change the world’ and we wholeheartedly support this notion.”Both Rosalind and Caroline had hoped that this event would encourage other female business owners to join them in their efforts to support the girl scouts. This year at least five other women-owned businesses have pledged to extend the same offer or similar offers and will be buying cookies from the girls who attend the event. Mary Cliff, owner of Our Play Place has made the same pledge along with Jayne Henninger from Remedy Intelligent Staffing and Beth Dannheim of American Family Insurance. Holly von Guilleaume, Co-Founder of DSA Vacations and Moms Making Six Figures Partner and Angela Gange, Senior Partner of Moms Making Six Figures and Founder of TLG Partnerships will also be in attendance to purchase cookies from the scouts. Prather and Wesnitzer have accomplished much in their eight years in business. They rank amongst an elite group as lessthan 4% of female-owned businesses ever generate more than 500,000 a year in revenue according to the U.S. CensusBureaus’ Survey of Business Owners. This year, the agency is set to be a multi-million dollar company with now three locations: Tucson, DFW and Phoenix. They have employed hundreds of women and men to provide occasional, part-time or full-time nanny services to their member families and have helped place countless other nannies and housekeepers in long-term positions with families. The agency also provides corporate child care services to small business and large corporations and helps churches with childcare staffing as well. The agency was also recently awarded with “Service Firm of the Year,” presented by the mayor. Prather and Wesnitzer hope to be an inspiration to girls and young women who have dreams of starting a business someday. Wesnitzer notes, “It was hard finding mentors who had experience and success running a business in their 20’sand could relate to what we were going through. When we first opened, we had to face a few challenges- like the fact that we were relatively very young, just out of college and had very little income to carry us as we were building a business. However, we had a dream, an idea and we made it happen.”Both women are excited about this event and looking forward to meeting budding entrepreneurs and hope that the community will help spread the word. “If girls are empowered to believe that business ownership is a real possibility for them, we think that helps ignite their dreams. And when girls dream, amazing things happen,” said Prather. For more information about this event or Trusting Connections Nanny Agency, please call 520.544.6612 or visit www.trustingconnections.com.
