This week: One player polished a Valley doctor’s nails...another was washing hair at shampoo bowl...

Dr. Gina Dado’s nails look very stylish. The gynecologist/obstetrician chose a glittery sparkling gold polish for her appointment at Rolf’s at Gainey Village. And look who polished them. That’s defensive end Cardinals player Calais Campbell. Really. I rounded up salon owners Rolf Lohse and Francis Tesmer for a photo.

That’s because the 6 ‘8 “, 290- pound Campbell didn’t just hold the polish brush to pose for the photo. He actually polished Dr. Dado’s nails. Really. It was all part of this very creative fundraiser –“Making the Cut” to benefit Arizona Cardinals charities.

The $95 event tickets included a haircut, style and revitalizing hair treatment from a Rolf’s stylist or an in depth skin analysis and precision with a 30 minute facial. They also received mini manicures and paraffin hand dips – which the players volunteered to help with at various times.

Where else could an obstetrician who delivers babies have a guy who delivers defensive plays polish her nails? Dr. Dado is a Cardinals fan and will have some great anecdotes to tell her coworkers and clients. Because this is really an event where fans get a chance to be up close and personal with some players and cheerleaders. And it’s a reasonably priced affair.

Players and cheerleaders signed autographs and posed for pictures with the crowd of about 200. You see, that’s another plus to this event- while the 150 people who bought the $95 event ticket were enjoying the services, their guests, spouses or children (for a $25 additional ticket price) enjoyed the ambiance, autographs and food.

And the food? Plentiful and upscale. A huge buffet in the middle of the salon boasted McCormick & Schmick’s shrimp, salmon, chicken, meatballs, cheese cake, chocolate cake and crème Brule.

And at the entrance, across from the area where players were helping with paraffin hand waxes.. were tables full of SPRINKLE cupcakes! Sprinkles donated ALL the cupcakes!! I asked Cardinals Safety Rashad Johnson (who was helping with paraffin waxes) to pose with Terra Marsden, manager of the Sprinkles store in Scottsdale for this photo above.

And players actually took turns at the shampoo bowl. This was quite the sight and the players assured me that shampooing wasn’t in their contract. Pictured above is player Jason Banks flanked by Rolf’s staff in the shampoo area.

Here’s Andi Zolkiewski with his six-week old infant taking Kodak moment stretch- as he waits for his wife Rita, who was enjoying the salon services. The couple are huge Cardinals fans and are “cheerleaders” of sorts for the event they’ve supported for several years.

All event participants who were pampered at the event also “scored” a gift bag stuffed with sponsor swag. And a silent auction showcased Cardinals memorabilia. Each Rolf’s stylist and aesthetician donated their time, each for five appointments.

As for the Cardinals players...they did a great job of helping to make for a first class charity event. They’ll obviously be keeping their day jobs. But what a team for this successful charitable fete!
