"The AZ Insider" with Kathy Shayna Shocket: Get the inside scoop on Arizona's social scene and celebrity news.

This week: Find out how you can golf with two famous Phoenicians and more!

Rock and roll legend Alice Cooper and Phoenix Police Reserve Officer Jason Schecterle are planning an afternoon of golf at Moon Valley Country Club and two lucky people will have the chance to join these local celebs on the links. “You and a friend will play a round of golf that you will not forget,” says Alice.

The golf package is one of the unique auction items to be featured at the 4th Annual 100 Club Jason Schecterle Scholarship Ball on Sept. 25. The Ball is an exceptionally worthwhile evening which benefits the 100 Club and its scholarship recipients. This highly respected non-profit provides financial assistance to families of public safety officers and firefighters who are seriously injured or killed in the line of duty. It also provides resources to enhance their safety and welfare.

The 100 Club was the first organization that offered help to Jason Schecterle and his family after he was catastrophically injured in the line of duty in 2001. Schecterle's patrol car was hit by a speeding taxi cab and exploded.

The result of this accident, which made national headlines, tragically left him with disfiguring injuries from fourth-degree burns and a lifetime of surgeries to combat the related illnesses caused by those burns.

After Jason suffered through the financial difficulties related to his injuries, he realized a need to help other public safety members who were catastrophically injured. So Jason and the 100 Club teamed up to celebrate his courageous triumph over tragedy by naming the first 100 Club scholarships in his honor. The scholarships are awarded to dependents of catastrophically injured officers or firefighters.

The Jason Schechterle Scholarship Ball was created in 2007 to help fund this scholarship. Since that initial vision, the Scholarship Ball has experienced incredible growth and has become the major source of funding, not only for the Schecterle Scholarship, but the entire 100 Club Scholarship Program. This year the committee reviewed nearly 100 applications from public safety officers and fire service family members.

The 34 awards will be presented at this year’s ball, along with the Outstanding Firefighter Award going to David Captain and Sasha Weller of the Scottsdale Fire Department. The Outstanding Officers Award recipients are Sean Reavie and Ryan Snider of the Phoenix Police Department.

Tickets for the black–tie optional dinner start at $85 per person. For details you can call the 100 Club at 602.485.0100.
