The next morning I was in denial after indulging in donuts, so I went for a run—quite a scenic run at that.  I saw the most amazing beach-front properties as I jogged past numerous harbors stocked with sailboats and kayaks.  But the thing that truly stuck out was the red and white fire hydrants.  Only in M.V.

Honestly, I had never been on a vacation for pure relaxation.  Our lack of a precise agenda sent a flowing of calm through my body.  Our day consisted of a lot of wonderful nothing…swinging on the porch, watching the BF fly a kite with his niece, and flaunting my football-throwing skills with the guys—LOL.

That night we ventured to the opposite end of the island where we had a seafood soiree of lobster, oyster, and clam chowder.  Our dinner began on the beach, but ended back at our blue house due to refreshingly rainy weather.

And of course, we topped off the night with ouzo and an assortment of Back Door Donuts.

Day three: The 4th of July.  You really can’t get more All-American than Martha’s Vineyard with each house boasting a grand old American Flag.

During the day, we rented cruiser bikes, checking out the island on 2-wheels.

And then we ventured to Edgartown.

What we called “E-Town” is a 10-minute drive out of Oak Bluffs, and the cookie-cutter community is right out of a movie.  It’s exactly what you’d expect—a clean, well-taken-care-of strip of shops and high-end eateries, with freshly groomed families draped in red, white, and blue.  We made ourselves comfortable at the Harbor View Hotel for dinner, and wrapped up our four-course feast just in time for fireworks.

Add this to your bucket-list: watching a waterfront firework spectacular in Martha’s Vineyard on the 4th.  You’ll get chills.

After, we returned to our home-sweet-home, and despite being a little sleepy, we still managed to treat ourselves to a couple of Back Door Donuts.
