It’s made of four simple ingredients and takes about a month to make.

You can buy it in a 6, 12, 24, or 36 pack, and enjoy it from the bottle, koozie, or straight out of a can.

Whether you prefer a twist of lime or hint of lemon, cracking open a cold one is an All-American pastime, and the Valley is gearing up to “cheers” to beer.

“Not only do I enjoy the drinking, but I enjoy the social aspect as well,” said David Hoffman, co-owner of Dave’s Electric Brewpub.

David Hoffman is one of the 60 brewers being highlighted at this Saturday’s 23rd Annual Great Arizona Beer Festival in Tempe--the largest booze fest in the Desert Southwest.  (www.azbeer.com/tempe) More than 200 craft selections will be available to taste-test, but there’s just something special about downing David’s beer.

Here’s why.

Rewind more than 20 years ago to 1988.  Arizona had just legalized microbreweries and a Bisbee, Arizona man dubbed “Electric Dave,” was bound to open the first one.

He applied for the state’s very first micro-brewer’s license and got it.  That’s when he opened Dave’s Electric Brewing Company in Bisbee.

Dave’s nick-name is quite fitting, as the multi-talented man is also a mechanic wizard, and the brewery’s electricity came as no shock.  After perfecting tasty beer recipes, his brewery became the place to be in the quaint, artsy town of Bisbee. Beer fans began to be-friend the brew-master.

That’s where this David comes in.

David Hoffman and his buddy Scott fell head over heels for Dave’s hops and proposed a business plan to partner with our electric friend.

The two were eager to introduce Dave’s brews to their hometown of Tempe, so in October 2009, David and Scott brought a little bit of Arizona’s history to the Valley, opening Dave’s Electric Brewpub near Mill Avenue.
