First, she suggests untying your “knots.” That means acknowledging and taking ownership of what you know you want.
“When you say ‘I can’t,’ it makes you a victim. When you say, ‘I choose not to,’ it gives you power.”
And you can get that power from your gut, the one thing that never fails us. She says practice trusting yourself, and within due time, it will become second-nature. Lyons advocates our inner-core never steers us in the wrong direction.
Next, give yourself that little blue box; in other words, don’t be a martyr. Identify what you need (whether it is physical or emotional) and get it yourself, or clearly express your desire to a loved one.
And here’s one you’ll appreciate; treat yourself! Lyons says don’t be apologetic for enjoying that daily cup of Joe from Starbucks, or Thursday nights in front of the tube watching “Jersey Shore.” Find life’s silver lining, and don’t forget to laugh.
“I want to empower women to identify what they’re rules are and not be taken by all the “shoulds” of everyone around them. Each woman needs to figure out her style."
Admittedly, Lyons’ style is far from a Suzy Homemaker. The multi-talented mom says she does not craft nor cook all the live-long day. Her “thing” is her job, but her number one priority is her kids.
“I’m not Supermom. I’m just doing what works for me and my family.”
She encourages all women to live by her favorite quote, “Don’t just like yourself; be crazy about yourself.”
On that note, grab yourself a glass of bubbly.
Cheers to you, the modern, savvy Valley woman.
