A few weeks ago, the family got a chance to attend a Phoenix Coyotes hockey game at Jobing.com arena.   We haven’t been to many sporting events with the kids – in fact, I think Jeremiah’s been to two baseball games during his life, and Sarah’s been to zero. We thought it would be a fun family thing to do, and we had the luxury of watching from a private suite, which meant the kids would be contained.

Jobing.com arena is at the huge Westgate City Center, which has ample (free) parking as well as a wealth of restaurants. If you’re heading to a game, it would be fun to stop and eat dinner before hand and watch the fountains – our favorite spot at Westgate? Margaritaville – the kids love it because there’s plenty of fun stuff to look at (especially if you get to sit in a boat!), and the nachos are fantastic.

Once you’ve chowed down, you can head to your seats and await the fun opening ceremony. All the lights are turned down low and the Phoenix Coyotes are introduced. The kids loved the loud music and the fun atmosphere as the crowd got ‘pumped up’ for the game against the Anaheim Ducks.

Then, the fun begins! The game started and Sarah really wasn’t into it – she was having fun running around in the open portion of the suite with her older cousin. Jeremiah loved the game and seemed to be able to follow what was happening. When the Coyotes score a goal, obviously the crowd goes wild and there’s a loud air horn that sounds.

(Sarah wasn’t a fan)

The suite was great because not only were the kids able to run around (a little bit) but we, as parents, were both able to enjoy the game. We also, of course, ordered some delicious snacks – who can resist pretzels and chips with salsa and guacamole while at a game? (Those chips were so good, by the way!)

They also come around with a dessert cart, which we avoided (it was the day before Thanksgiving, after all!)

We had a great time, and I would definitely recommend attending a game as a family!

The Coyotes also offer the Howler Kids Club for children 16 and under – you can sign up online or at the arena during the game.

You can check out the Coyotes schedule and ticket information at the Phoenix Coyotes Website!
