October is an important month for the Japanese Friendship Garden as it marks the start of our fall season. We are excited to announce three upcoming volunteer events in the month of October!

The Volunteer Open House is a biannual event where you can learn about the many volunteer opportunities we have at the Japanese Friendship Garden. Learn about the activities of our weekly Gardening Volunteers. Discover the essential benefit our Volunteer Ambassadors provide to the Garden's visitors. Find out how you can participate in the amazing monthly events held in the Garden. The Open House will be held online via a Zoom meeting. Time will be set aside for any questions at the end of the meeting.

Garden Clean-Up Day

  • When:10/10 7am-10:30am
  • Where: The Japanese Friendship Garden

As attendance increases at this time of the year, it is important we do our utmost to provide the most beautiful and serene experience for our guests. We invite you to take part in this crucial undertaking to deep clean the Garden for the new season. Under the guidance of the Garden Curator we will be raking, pruning, planting, watering, trimming, sweeping, and more to bring the Garden to its very best. Snacks and cool water will be provided. Be sure to wear comfortable clothes and closed-toed shoes.

Otsukimi Moon Viewing Exhibit

  • When:10/30 & 31 5pm-9pm
  • Where: The Japanese Friendship Garden
  • View on our site: Click here.

Our Annual Otsukimi - Moon Viewing will be transformed from our large two-day festival into an intimate and socially distanced exhibit this year so that you can still enjoy the harvest moon in 2020. Please remember this will not be an event and will not include musical performances, food vendors, or our tea cafe. However, we will have art displays and installations, lanterns, Ikebana displays, and of course various exhibits for you to purpose. Our Gift Shop will sell Japanese sweets, snacks, and drinks, so don't worry if you do get hungry or thirsty as you stroll. Volunteers are invited to participate in the production of this special event. We have many roles available.
