In My Shoes likes to feature young and admirable students and find out what inspires them not only on a daily basis, but also career wise. There are several students at Arizona State University that have dreams and aspirations and we like to find out what they’re doing in order to achieve them. Also, campus clubs, organizations, and sororities play a major role in student life. In My Shoes features Arizona State University and takes a closer look at their lifestyle. This week, I talked to Ginger Poulson, freshman, majoring in Journalism and Mass Communication.
Ginger Poulson, Arizona State University freshman
Where are you from?
I’m from Waukesha, Wisconsin, which is about twenty minutes outside of Milwaukee.
I see that you're involved in a sorority, tell me more about it.
Yes! I’m in Delta Zeta and joining Delta Zeta has been the best decision that I’ve made since I’ve been at ASU. The girls are all amazing and talented in so many different ways.
Are you involved in any other clubs/organizations on campus?
First semester I did sports updates on Fridays for our radio station, The Blaze and I am also a member of SAA, which is the student alumni association…so you can see me waiting in line for football tickets bright and early on game days and then catch me in the front row at home games!
Are you currently interning or working anywhere?
Currently I am freelancing for College Baseball Daily as their Pac-12 conference reporter. Baseball has always been something that I’m passionate about, so having the opportunity to report for a national website, covering one of the top conferences in all of college baseball is an incredible opportunity…especially when I’m only a freshman in college! It is unreal to me, but it has really solidified my desire to pursue a career in the field of sports journalism.
What are your future career goals?
Ultimately I would like to end up covering sports as on-air talent for a major network…but it is going to take a lot of hard work and dedication to get there! I trust that with the right work ethic, concentration, attitude and determination that everything will fall into God’s plan for me. So for now, I’m focusing on being the best Pac-12 conference reporter that I can be for College Baseball Daily. I definitely know that I need to have sports in my future though…it’s a passion inside of me that I know won’t ever fade!
Who inspires you?
Both of my parents definitely inspire me. They are great people who have raised me the right way and have set my morals and standards as high as they can be. Another person who inspires me is Houston Texan’s defensive end, JJ Watt. I had the opportunity to work with JJ when he was starting his foundation, and his work ethic and character have impressed me even more than his play on the field has. I live by his motto “Dream Big, Work Hard” and wear my DBWH bracelet everyday as a reminder of where hard work and perseverance can get you.
