You may have seen the recent flux of advertisements in the local newspapers from E.D. Marshall Jewelers urging people to sell their old jewelry or gold for cash. This is because gold prices are at an all time high, meaning sellers will make more than before, and also meaning that Edmund Marshall is on a buying spree, something he has done many times in the past 38 years as gold prices ebb and flow with the market changes.

Marshall began his business of manufacturing jewelry in 1971 and really started buying estate jewelry, watches and old gold jewelry in 1976 “when gold and silver were still increasing in value,” Marshall says. He would buy gold and silver coins, jewelry, tea sets and even flatware, diamonds and both wrist and pocket watches. Marshall would then recreate the materials into stunning jewelry for retail, which E.D Marshall Inc. created for stores like Saks Fifth Avenue, Sakowitz and Marshall Field. It was in 1981 when gold and silver prices dropped that buying slowed down. Marshall turned his attention toward his own newly opened retail business, Capriccio Fine Jewelry at the Borgata. Then, always watching the market and making his moves accordingly, Marshall began a buying binge again in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Precious metal prices were back up “so I jumped back in and had buying teams around the country,” says Marshall. Noting that the 90’s were also great for retail, he continued to use his purchased metals to create new jewelry for retail, also specializing in refurbishing luxury watches for resale.

In 1995 Marshall opened the gorgeous 9000-sq.-ft. E. D. Marshall Jewelers on Scottsdale Road, just south of Shea Boulevard. Here, behind the shining glass cases of fine jewels (which include custom designs as well as branded jewelry like Roberto Coin and Konstantino) his same method of business still applies: Buying old gold and making new jewels, as a base model, but also maintaining the mantra of providing top service. At E.D. Marshall buyers you will find only the highest end GIA-certified diamonds, the largest selection of new and refurbished luxury watches in the state, and only seasoned gemologists and sales support to assist customers in making a good buying decision. And of course, when you enter the posh E.D. Marshall Jewelers store in Scottsdale you will see to your right a large Estate Jewelry section, where an outstanding selection of unique jewelry pieces lay waiting. Marshall says that buying estate jewelry, diamonds and watches is a great way to save money yet still end up with a very valuable piece. “It’s cheaper since there is no labor involved. But a diamond is a diamond,” says Marshall, stating that you are never compromising on quality when you buy his estate pieces.

This Estate Jewelry department of the store is also where customers can come to sell their estate pieces, broken gold, old silverware, coins, diamonds and watches. Gold is bought by weight, and diamonds and other jewelry is appraised by a professional and purchased accordingly. But one thing for sure is that customers can be assured they are selling their gold and jewelry at the highest possible price when dealing with E.D. Marshall Jewelers. Customers are welcome to stop by anytime with pieces for sale, but may also want to check out the E.D. Marshall Jewelers website (www.edmarshalljewelers.com) for specific locations and buying dates in other towns in Arizona. E.D. Marshall Jewelers is open Monday thru Saturday, buying and selling from 10 to 6 weekdays and 10 to 5 on Saturday.

“Now is a great time to sell,” says Marshall. And he would know. As one of the most knowledgeable jewelers out there, he has been buying and selling for nearly 40 years and knows a good opportunity when he sees one.
