Scottsdale’s culinary landscape is getting a flavorful new addition with the opening of Ni Hao Bao Dumpling House, a fast-casual eatery blending handmade comfort food with the spirit of an Asian street market.
Founded by Arizona natives and longtime friends Darrell Ngo and Arin Finger, the concept opened on January 16. Inside the 1,500-square-foot space, guests are welcomed into an airy, open-kitchen setting where the action is part of the experience.
Ni Hao Bao focuses on made-to-order food, from hand-pinched dumplings in both meat and vegetarian varieties to pillowy bao buns served crispy or steamed. The menu also features wontons and refreshing boba drinks, creating a lineup that feels both comforting and crave-worthy. A spacious, dog-friendly patio adds to the neighborhood’s approachable feel, making it just as suitable for a quick lunch as for a laid-back hangout.
“Our goal was to create a place where everyone feels welcome,” Co-Founder Darrell Ngo said. Ni Hao (the Chinese greeting for hello) is simple, yet it carries the warmth of a deep cultural welcome. As you enter, you can feel the energy shift to a warm reception, conveyed through their people, space, and music.
Ngo brings deep industry experience to the venture, shaped by a 21-year career with P.F. Chang’s. Starting in restaurant operations, he worked his way to the corporate office as Senior Culinary Innovation Chef, where he led global menu development, helped open eight restaurants, created more than 250 recipes, and trained hundreds of team members across the country.
Co-founder Arin Finger adds a different kind of creative lens. A seasoned entrepreneur and former Visual Effects and Animation Producer in motion pictures, Finger helps ensure the space is as visually engaging as the food is satisfying, contributing to an atmosphere that feels upbeat, modern, and memorable.
