Desert Stages Theatre (DST) announces the debut of “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” on Saturday, January 19 at 12:00 p.m.

The show begins as an eclectic group of six mid-pubescents contend for the spelling championship of Putnam County. As the group competes against one another, they share a number of stories from their home lives both hilarious and touching. Each participant spells their way through the competition (spelling several potentially made-up words), in hopes to make it through each round avoiding the un-affirming “ding” which beckons a spelling error. Only one participant will leave with the Spelling Bee Champion title. The musical comedy will be directed by Lisa Barton Figueroa and be performed by actors ages 12 through 22.

“The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” will run from Saturday, January 19, until Sunday, February 10, with performances every Saturday at 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. and every Sunday at 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. For more information about performance dates and times please visit DesertStages.org.
