Description
A Grand Canyon Celebration of Art
Grand Canyon National Park September 10, 2016 – January 16, 2017
The Grand Canyon Association and Arizona Public Service are pleased to announce the 8th Annual Grand Canyon Celebration of Art at Grand Canyon National Park. This year, the Grand Canyon Celebration of Art is joining Grand Canyon National Park
in celebrating the 100 year anniversary of the National Park Service.
Since its inception in 2009, the artists participating in the Celebration of Art have created a studio painting prior to the event of a Grand Canyon scene. This year’s participating artists will have their choice of which National Park they would like to capture on canvas. Since the 26 participating artists come from all around the United States, the variety of parks represented will result a rich and exciting mix of artwork.
The plein air work produced during this year’s event (September 10-17, 2016)
will be Grand Canyon paintings. Visitors will have the opportunity to watch the artists paint as they seek to represent the shifting light and shadow, amazing land forms, and vibrant colors of this vast landscape. Artists will be at the North and South Rims and, again this year, at Phantom Ranch and Indian Garden. In addition there will be free artists demonstrations scheduled at various locations during the week.
A new dimension to the 2016 Grand Canyon Celebration will be the introduction of sculpture to the event—during the plein air event September 10-17, Sedona sculptor Michael Trcic will be working on a wildlife sculpture along the South Rim!
The Celebration of Art exhibit opens at noon on Sunday September 18 and will continue through January 16, 2017 at the historic Kolb Studio. Admission is free and open to the public.
