XAVIER COLLEGE PREPARATORY TO SEND TOP TWO EPICS TEAMS TO ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY TO COMPETE IN SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP CONTEST

(Phoenix) Xavier College Preparatory will send two Engineering Projects in Community Service (EPICS) teams to the Project Presentation Palooza (P3) at Arizona State University on Tuesday, October 18th from 6:30-8:30 p.m.   The competition will be co-sponsored by Barrett, The Honors College and The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering -- both at Arizona State University -- and will feature a contest between the top two high school EPICS teams from Xavier as well as a separate contest among ASU's top ten EPICS GOLD teams. A distinguished panel of leaders from industry and academia will judge the competition, and the cash prizes awarded to each of the winning teams will be used to fund implementation of their respective EPICS projects.

Originally developed at Purdue University in 1995 as an educational model wherein students design technology-centered solutions that meet real needs in their communities, EPICS was subsequently expanded to high schools. In partnership with EPICS at Arizona State University, 44 teams comprised of 111 Xavier students are currently using fresh thinking, innovation, leadership and technology to tackle tough social challenges.

The Project Presentation Palooza (P3) will take place in the Cottonwood Room 101/103 of Barrett, The Honors College, and will be open to the public. Complimentary refreshments will be provided at a reception following the competition.
