Popular vegetarian restaurants in Phoenix

Who says it’s hard to feast sans meat? It’s easy to go green with these healthful and delicious Valley vegetarian restaurants:

Pita Jungle
Featuring local art and a healthful, vegetarian-friendly menu, dine on lentils, tabbouleh, tofu and veggie burgers at this Valley favorite. One of my favorites is the Macro Platter, which offers a bit of every vegetarian food group: mixed beans, brown rice, fresh steamed vegetables, grilled tofu and a pita.

Details: 7366 E. Shea Blvd., Scottsdale. 480-922-PITA (7482). Other locations at pitajungle.com.

Carly’s Bistro
Enjoy some live music in the heart of the Roosevelt Arts District with your hummus dip and olive tapenade before diving in to a sandwich like the Europa, which boasts a nice serving of roasted red peppers, artichoke hearts, tomatoes and spinach with smoked mozzarella on crispy ciabatta bread.

Details: 128 E.Roosevelt St., Phoenix. 602-262-2759, carlysbistro.com.

Sage Kitchen
Tucked back in the Town & Country Shopping Center, Sage Kitchen is half-herb shop and half-café with vegan and vegetarian cuisine. The simple menu of organic vegetarian wraps, flavorful salads, and dozens of “health-promoting” teas will keep your spirits up.

True Food Kitchen
True Food Kitchen’s Dr. Andrew Weil-approved menu is rich with specialties for vegans, vegetarians and those who go gluten free. Never before can you find so many options for vegan pizza that also tastes delicious. Consider the organic tomato, kale and caramelized onion pizza, smeared with organic tomato sauce.

Nourish Restaurant
Nourish Restaurant has a dish for almost every dietary lifestyle; look for helpful symbols indicating items that are vegan or vegetarian, as well as dishes that are free of gluten, eggs, corn, soy, lactose and nuts. The Healthy Protein Burger is a choice pick, made with chickpeas, red beans, sweet potato, walnuts, chia seed, spaghetti squash, parsley spinach and kale, topped with cucumbers and pesto vin.

Details: 7147 E. Highland Ave., Scottsdale. 480-684-2233, nourish123.com.

The Herb Box
Enjoy some Vegan Nosh comprised of chickpeas and red quinoa salad with radish sprouts, celery, tahini,  fried shallots, tangerine beets, white bean and herb hummus, sugar snap peas and caramelized fennel. After you’re done munching, do some one-stop-shop grocery shopping at The Herb Box market that offers delicacies and gourmet-inspired specialty items à la carte for your next at-home family-style dinner, cocktail party or cheese craving.

Details: 7134 E. Stetson Drive, Scottsdale, 480-289-6160; 20707 N. Pima Road, Scottsdale, 480-289-6180. theherbbox.com.

I’m sure there’s a bunch more that could be included on this list. Veggies: Where are your favorite vegetarian-friendly places to dine out?
