WHAT:           
The Phoenix Suns’ Gorilla will deliver 660 backpacks, filled with school supplies, when he visits Gateway Community College on Thursday, August 11 at 4 p.m. The backpacks will be sorted at Gateway Community College prior to being donated to Communities in Schools, an organization dedicated to empowering underserved Valley youth to stay in school.                   

 

The Phoenix Suns, in partnership with Harkins Theatres and Coca-Cola, hosted “Operation Backpack” this past weekend, collecting 510 backpacks for underserved children across the Valley. In addition, the Phoenix Suns are donating 150 backpacks, bringing the total to 660 backpacks collected. Communities in Schools will distribute the backpacks to Title One schools in the following school districts:

 

·         Balsz Elementary School District        

·        Ihambra Elementary School District

·         Littleton Elementary School District

·         Osborn Elementary School District

·         Phoenix Elementary School District

·         Phoenix Union High School District

·         Washington Elementary School District

“Operation Backpack” is one of the community initiatives of the “Operation Orange” campaign. Fans were encouraged to donate a backpack filled with school supplies to one of the three Harkins location on Saturday, August 6 and Sunday, August 7. Fans received two free Ultimate VIP admission tickets to a Harkins Theatres movie of their choice for each donation.
