Grocery Great: Pitaya Plus

PitayaPlus-51
There is a new superfood on the block, everyone: pitaya. Pitaya, or dragonfruit, is naturally gluten- and dairy-free and contains no added sugars. The fruit is rich in antioxidants, packed with vitamins B and C, and contains active enzymes which help to neutralize free radicals, aid in digestion and boost energy and immunity. And now, pitaya is now more readily available.
Pitaya Plus has just released brand new 100 percent pitaya raw frozen cubes at Safeway stores across Arizona. Plus, Pitaya Plus smoothie packs are available at Sprouts stores. Basically, Pitaya Plus makes it super-easy to incorporate this amazing fruit into your diet, whether in smoothies, smoothie bowls or other blended breakfasts or desserts. Pitaya Plus comes in small baggies that are easy to store in the fridge; the bags can also be easily cut and the fruit slides directly into the blender. (Pitaya is similar to a beet in its ability to stain or tint skin so it is best to keep contact to a minimum.) Plus, pitaya’s hot pink hue will intrigue the kiddos while its sweet taste, which will mask the greens you blend into their smoothie, will make them want to savor it until the last bite or sip.
