Foundress Fridays: Meet Grace Wani Murphy, Founder of Yumna Global Consulting 

Yumna Global Consulting is a boutique consulting practice that helps organizations navigate enterprise system implementations, process improvements, and the kind of operational change that lives at the intersection of people, workflows, and technology.

The team works with clients from project initiation through delivery – gathering requirements, mapping financial and operational processes, establishing governance, and helping teams get ready for the change that’s coming.

The name “Yumna” carries the meaning of good fortune and right-handed strength, which is what the team wants every client engagement to feel like – capable hands guiding work in the right direction.

AZF: What is your “life motto”?

Do the work that makes the room better when you walk out of it.” I want every project, every conversation, and every decision to leave things stronger than I found them.   

AZF: Did you always know that you wanted to be an entrepreneur? If not, when did you realize that it was the right path for you?

Honestly, no – I enjoy the corporate world and the stability it offers. But entrepreneurship has always pulled me. I find it very fun. When I was 10, my parents opened a boutique and put me in charge of it. I would take care of inventory, adjust prices according to the market and competitors… From there, I just kept finding ways to make money – selling waffles in stores in Alexandria, Virginia, opening an online shoe store, even getting paid to do other students’ homework in college. Hustle has always been part of who I am.

Yumna Global Consulting is my first truly “professional” entrepreneurial venture – the first time I’m pulling together everything I’ve built over 11 years of corporate work and my education in business (MBA, Lean Six Sigma, Scrum Master) and pointing all of it at solving real problems for clients. So, while I can’t say I always knew, I can say every step along the way was preparing me for this one and for whatever is coming next.

AZF: How do you feel best supported?

By people that allow me to dream. Thinking partners who will push back when something’s off and celebrate when something works. My family, my mentors, and the women in my community are that for me.         

AZF: What motivates you to keep going amidst the challenges that come with being an entrepreneur?

My own story. I wrote Healing Your Silent Scars because I believe in the work of building yourself back up, and that same belief carries into the business. Hard days are part of the process, not a sign to stop.

There is a principle I’ve come to live by: never waste a loss. Every setback, every closed door, every project that didn’t land the way I hoped carries a lesson – and my job is to find it, name it, and carry it forward.”  

AZF: Describe your perfect Saturday.

A sunbath to start the day – letting the morning light do its work. Then a long, unhurried bath. Breakfast taken slowly, the way it deserves to be. And finally, settling in with a good book. No rush, no agenda.

AZF: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to a young entrepreneur who is just starting out?

I’m new to entrepreneurship. I’m still figuring out a lot of things. However, I’ll share what I’m learning in real time: patience and persistence are everything. Results almost never show up on the timeline you imagined. You have to keep showing up, doing the work, refining your offering, having the conversations – even when nothing visible is happening. The growth is compounding quietly in the background, and one day you look up and realize consistency was the strategy all along.      

AZF: What excites you most about being an entrepreneur?

The freedom to design solutions around what a client actually needs, not what fits inside a rigid corporate playbook. Every engagement is a fresh problem to crack, and I get to bring my full toolkit – analysis, project leadership, stakeholder advisory, change readiness – without the pressure of staying in one lane.
