After her owner sadly passed away in June of this year, Athena and another dog had nowhere else to turn. With no one else to care for them, they were rescued by the Arizona Humane Society and now this gorgeous five-year-old American Bulldog is still looking for her forever home.

Upon being transferred to the organization, Athena was found to have some irritation on her paw pads, a few worn teeth and some swelling of her back leg. With a few dental extractions behind her, the jubilant pup has healed nicely and hopes to find a forever home that allows her to be her energetic, outgoing self.

Athena has shown that she loves everyone she meets, getting attention and is a ham when it comes to showing off her tricks in exchange for some yummy treats. With endless booty wiggles, a big smile and an even bigger heart, it is a wonder this sweet girl is still at the shelter.

In memory of an Arizona Humane Society alum, Jean Valjean, a senior black cat who sadly passed away from cancer, all black pets have $0 adoption fees now through August 28 thanks to an anonymous donor and adopter who has generously offered to sponsor adoption fees. Jean was found as an injured stray in 2018 and brought to the Arizona Humane Society where he was treated for wounds and corneal scarring. He spent his remaining golden years of life with his loving family in Phoenix.

Oftentimes, black pets like sweet Betty often spend longer on the adoption floor as they tend to be overlooked by potential adopters more than other pets. The 32-pound American Pit Bull mix was rescued by the Arizona Humane Society in July after her owner sadly passed away and there was no one else to care for her.

Betty is a kind soul who loves to get treats and would appreciate a family that allows her to adjust to her new home with lots of patience and positive reinforcement. An unfortunate trend that seems to be on the rise in the Valley is pet abandonment. Whether due to eviction, not being able to afford a furry friend any longer or another major life change, the Arizona Humane Society’s Animal Rescue and Cruelty Team are sadly seeing more and more pets left behind.

This is such the case for adorable Charlie, a three-year-old Labrador Retriever mix who was found abandoned at a park tied to a palm tree in the middle of a sweltering June day. Thankfully, she was found before heat exhaustion could overcome her and was found to be a little underweight when evaluated in the shelter’s trauma hospital but otherwise pretty healthy.

In her time at the Arizona Humane Society, Charlie has shown she absolutely loves people and does great with kids but would do best as the only pup in her future forever home. It is very rare to see this cute pup without a tail wag or smile on her face as she is always having a great time showing off her tricks and exploring new places. This cutie would especially love a family that enjoys taking naps as much as she does after a long day!

At 12-years-young, Charlie never imagined he would be back at the Arizona Humane Society looking for a new forever home. Unfortunately, he has been in the care of the shelter since June after his owner fell ill and was no longer able to care for him.

The sweet Labrador Retriever has a longstanding history with the Arizona Humane Society after he was originally adopted in 2014 after being rescued as a stray. Now that he is back, adorable Charlie has been treated for some tummy issues as well as a bit of a puppy cold.

As a senior, Charlie would love nothing more than a loving family that allows him to go on walks and get lots of treats in his golden years. From riding in the car to snuggling up next to his people, this adorable senior is hoping to have a relaxed life where he can get all the cuddles, love and pets.

Calling all Boxer lovers! Regardless of if you prefer the breed or not, how could anyone not fall absolutely head over heels for this wrinkly faced pup?!

At six-years-old, Frankie found his way to the Arizona Humane Society in early June after his previous family were evicted and could not bring him with. Thankfully, local police were notified of this and they transferred him into the care of the shelter where he has received medical treatment for tummy issues and a puppy cold.

Now that he is feeling better, Frankie has shown himself to be a huge cuddle bug who loves to give slobbery kisses in between chasing tennis balls. Although he has a gray muzzle, that has not stopped him from showing off his amazing tricks, how well he walks on a leash, what a gentleman he is in a home environment and more! Frankie is a perfect example of amazing pets who continue to be overlooked and stay on the adoption floor a little bit longer than others but that does not mean he is not just as deserving of a loving forever home.

Truly a gem in every way, Diamond is an extremely special pup who is patiently waiting for her forever home at the Arizona Humane Society. As with many pets who have made their way to Valley shelters, this adorable five-year-young Shepherd mix found her way to the shelter after her previous family could not afford her medical care.

Diamond’s previous family became worried about her after she lost her appetite and was no longer eating. Thinking she may have eaten something she should not have, they brought her to the Arizona Humane Society and surrendered her to ensure she got the help she needed. Luckily, x-rays revealed that this loving girl did not ingest anything she shouldn’t have but her bloodwork did reveal elevated protein levels which will need to be kept an eye on in the future.

Those who know this gentle pup say she is extremely calm, loves everyone she meets and fits in perfectly with everyone around her. While on Field Trips with volunteers, Diamond has also proven to be an extremely great walker, calm in the car and gets along great with kids and other dogs who match her serene lifestyle.
