AZF: What is your “life motto”?
Reputation is everything. Always do what is right, especially when no one is watching. You usually only get one shot.
AZF: Did you always know that you wanted to be an entrepreneur? If not, when did you realize that it was the right path right for you?
I have always known I wanted a career in finance – ever since I was young, I was drawn to numbers and fascinated by money and banking. What I didn’t expect was that passion would lead me to become one of the few female Vice Presidents at Peoples Mortgage. Looking back, it makes sense – my dad was always in banking and mortgages, so I grew up in the industry. It was in my blood, and I didn’t even realize it until after college.
AZF: How do you feel best supported?
I feel best supported when I am surrounded by like-minded people. I believe that iron sharpens iron. Being around others who are motivated, honest, genuine, and loyal inspires me. I also feel deeply supported when my hard work and efforts are appreciated – it fuels my passion and drive! I especially love working with clients and referral partners who value collaboration and are open to creative ideas as we work toward shared success.
AZF: What motivates you to keep going amidst the challenges that come with being an entrepreneur?
There are definitely lots of challenges when it comes to the mortgage business – especially being a woman entrepreneur in the mortgage industry. What motivates me and keeps me going, first and foremost, is my kids and family. I want to set an example for them of what it means to be a kind, hardworking, independent, successful human being.
I’m deeply motivated by my clients and relationships with my referral partners. My clients are counting on me to guide them through one of the biggest milestones and financial decisions of their lives. It is an honor I do not take lightly, and I am committed to always doing what is right for their unique goals and specific situations. Even if that means not closing the loan.
At the same time, my referral partners are essential to my business growth and success and keep me motivated. The relationships we build are based on trust, open communication, and mutual support. Together, we work through the challenges of the real estate to make sure the client experience is seamless and successful.
AZF: Describe your perfect Saturday morning.
My perfect Saturday morning starts with no alarm clock – hopefully sleeping in past 7 a.m. (hah!), dog at my feet and iced coffee in hand. Heading out to watch my son’s baseball game then off to a volleyball tournament for my daughter. If there is time, a nap would be fantastic (and much needed). Ideally, the day would have great food and drinks and even better company! Sunday I will take the day off.
AZF: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to a young entrepreneur who is just starting out?
One of the most valuable pieces of advice I would give to a young entrepreneur who is just starting out is find a great mentor! Seek out someone who is already successful in the business you want to pursue – someone whose values and goals aligns with yours. Learn as much as you can because relationships and mentorships are the true keys to long-term continued success. Having the right guidance early on will help you build the right systems and habits, avoid mistakes, and open doors you never knew existed.
AZF: What excites you most about being an entrepreneur?
The freedom to create something meaningful that directly impacts people’s lives. Everyone needs a place to live, and I love the challenge of educating clients and partners, navigating obstacles, and constantly growing personally and professionally. There’s nothing more fulfilling than seeing clients cry tears of joy at the closing table because they never thought they could buy a home, and I was the one who helped make that dream a reality when every other lender said no. Knowing that my success is directly tied to the happiness of others is rewarding!
I am energized by the freedom to think creatively (within the law and guidelines, of course!) and solve problems. You give me a problem, and I will provide you with ten solutions. I don’t take no for an answer, especially when it comes to helping clients achieve the dream of homeownership.
Whether it’s finding a way forward for a buyer who’s been told no too many times or collaborating with partners to grow their business, I bring heart, hustle, and innovation to every opportunity. Being an entrepreneur allows me to make a difference, and that is what drives me every day.
