Age: 29

Title: Associate Attorney

Married/Single:  Single for now…. but I have the most amazing, loving, and supportive boyfriend who may just change that!

Kids: No kids in the traditional sense, but I have a beautiful Saint Bernard puppy named Stassi and a step-dog Chocolate Lab named Taz.

City you live in: Phoenix, Arizona

A typical day in my life includes… During my weekdays, I try to wake up early to enjoy some time outside with Stassi before it gets too warm out.  As a family law attorney, my day varies significantly, but it typically involves phone calls and emails with clients and opposing counsels, preparing for and attending hearings, and assisting with any emergencies that may arise, such as an opposing party unlawfully withholding the children.  After work, my boyfriend Spencer and I usually do some form of exercise, whether it’s working out, going for a quick hike, playing tennis, or swimming.  On the weekends, we like to explore new places and eat at local restaurants. My night always ends with cuddle time with my Saint Stassi!

I was born… and raised in a small town in North Dakota.

My favorite thing about Arizona… the weather! It is gorgeous here year round and I really try to take advantage and spend as much time as possible outdoors.

I’m listening to… I am part of a book club and capitalize on the inherent extra time provided by my commute by listening to audio books! I also listen to podcasts to keep up with news and culture.

My family… Is the most important thing in the world to me.  Since moving to Arizona, I have really come to appreciate and understand just how close my family is without the need to be physically close.  Everyone makes an effort to see each other as much as possible whether they come to visit to warm up in the sunshine or I go back to North Dakota for the Holidays.

If I could have dinner with anyone, it would be… the original members of Blink 182.

One thing I cannot live without… Honestly, I would have to say my puppy (sorry, Spencer).  She is truly the sweetest girl, and I cannot imagine life without her.

When I was younger, I wanted to be…  an Equine Veterinarian.

I’m inspired by… My parents.  I have a very close relationship with both of them, and they have inspired me in different ways.  My dad is hardworking and selfless, and I have strived to emulate his work ethic in my own career.  My dad and I also share a love of running marathons and we have run two together.  My mom is passionate about her work as a teacher and puts others’ needs before her own.  I have that same passion in representing people that may not otherwise have a voice.

The one person who motivates me is… myself.  I have always been extremely self-motivated which I believe is important in my line of work, as it is often a thankless job and never as glamourous as television and movies depict.  Outside of work, my boyfriend, Spencer is always motivating and challenging me to push myself, try new things, and get outside of my comfort zone, which has led to so many great adventures.

If I could change anything in the world, it would be… to make travel more efficient so I would not have to miss out on any further family events (also known as teleportation).

The perfect day would be… Waking up early to see the sun rise over an ocean, followed by a morning of riding roller coasters at Cedar Point, taking Stassi for a walk, then going to a Vikings/Packers game (Vikings would win, obviously!).  After, I would have my dinner with Tom, Mark, and Travis from Blink 182 before going to their show.  The night would end with ice cream and fireworks.

My first job was… working at a tuxedo rental company.

My favorite escape… is getting outside.  I love to escape to the outdoors whether it’s a trip somewhere or as simple as reading a book or magazine while drinking coffee on the porch.  The outdoors are truly my escape and I cannot imagine a more amazing place to live than Arizona.

My life… is perfect.  And by that, I mean I am truly happy with where I am in life and enjoying every minute of every day.  My life has changed so much over the past few years in such positive ways that I have just been enjoying the journey.  I am excited to continue down this path and seeing what else is in store for me.

I’m currently working on… growing the family law section of my firm, Doran Justice.

Always…learning and looking for opportunities to improve myself in my firm and personal life.

Never…Bored!

More About Shelby Anderson:
Currently, I am Family Law Attorney at Doran Justice, PLLC, in Phoenix, Arizona. However, I was born and raised in a small town in North Dakota.  In high school and college, I was always busy with extra-curricular activities, including volleyball, basketball, track, cheerleading, band, choir, and Science Olympiad.  I double majored in Psychology and Sociology with a minor in Criminal Justice at the University of North Dakota.  During this time I was an athlete on the UND cheer team for both football and basketball all four years.

Upon graduating from college, I attended Arizona State University Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law, where I gained the legal knowledge and real-world experience that I truly believe has helped me become the attorney I am today.  During law school, I spent much of my time assisting with the development of ASU’s Sports Law and Business Program (SLB).  I am extremely proud to have graduated with a 3.63 GPA and ranked in the top 20% of my class.

Following graduation, I joined Doran Justice, PLLC, a law firm practicing primarily in criminal defense, where I was given the opportunity to grow the firm’s family law practice.  I attribute a lot of my success to the opportunities provided by my firm, and I am grateful I was able to join a firm with such an enriching sense of community that values professionalism as well as providing an atmosphere that fosters personal and professional growth.  I am able to help individuals to solve a wide array of family law issues.  Doran Justice prides itself on making legal services accessible; the firm participates in different programs that cater to individuals who may not otherwise be able to afford representation.
