Ever felt like you have a closet full of clothes, but nothing to wear? That’s how Michelle Lindsay felt before experiencing a color analysis appointment with House of Colour a few years ago while working as a VP for a Fortune 500 company.
Now, Michelle owns a House of Colour franchise location in Chandler that’s helped 300+ women and their families feel confident about what colors to wear for clothes, hair, and makeup, using a scientifically-based process.
House of Colour Southwest Chandler is a personal styling studio where women uncover their most flattering colors and personal style, so they can stop second-guessing what to wear and start showing up with confidence. Through the signature color and style analysis, clients discover which hues harmonize best with their natural features – skin tone, eyes, and hair – and how to align their wardrobe with their unique style personality.
“It’s more than a makeover, it’s a transformational experience that helps women reclaim their self-image, shop smarter, and feel like the best version of themselves every day,” Michelle said. “As a former corporate professional turned entrepreneur, I know what it’s like to feel stuck in a wardrobe that doesn’t reflect your personality or power. Whether someone is getting dressed for work, motherhood, or life’s big moments, our goal is to make getting dressed feel easy, intentional, and joyful.”
AZF: What is your “life motto”?
Do the best that you can and believe the best in others.
AZF: Did you always know that you wanted to be an entrepreneur? If not, when did you realize that it was the right path right for you?
Since I was a little girl, I can remember finding creative ways to make money. I have always loved leading, building community, and thinking outside the box to solve problems. I remember starting to work at a young age, growing up in a very frugal household in the Midwest.
Though I dreamt of owning a business, I never thought I would have the resources to start one that was truly profitable. But here I am, thanks to financial provision and the support of my family, owning and growing my own House of Colour franchise in Arizona!
AZF: How do you feel best supported?
Faith is an important aspect of my life and what’s gotten me through the most difficult of seasons. When I’m having a hard time or truly need support, I pray and ask my friends and family to pray for me. I believe that vulnerably asking for help like that from others and from God invites abundance and love into the spaces where I need it most – personally or professionally.
AZF: What motivates you to keep going amidst the challenges that come with being an entrepreneur?
My family and my clients are what keep me going through the rollercoaster of entrepreneur life. I want to provide a better life for my kids than I had growing up, while being present for their important milestones and memories. Running House of Colour allows me to achieve that goal.
My clients are a huge motivation because the transformations that I see them undergo after their color analysis appointments is inspiring! They leave my studio with such optimistic confidence and renewed sense of self-worth that I can’t help smiling ear-to-ear with the satisfaction that I helped make them feel that way. It seems silly but showing people the scientifically best colors and styles to wear for hair, makeup, and clothing changes lives!
AZF: Describe your perfect Saturday morning.
I do it every weekend with my family: Wake up, eat breakfast, sip some coffee, read or do a word search, load up the family in the car, drive to Burn Boot Camp while listening to Forrest Frank, workout with my husband, and then get donuts together at Bosa. It’s a Saturday tradition.
AZF: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to a young entrepreneur who is just starting out?
Work in your strengths and spend the majority of your time on what you’re good at. Life is too short to focus on our weaknesses. Ask for help and outsource the tasks that deplete you, so you can enjoy life as an entrepreneur doing what you love!
AZF: What excites you most about being an entrepreneur?
One of the most exciting things that I get to do every day as an entrepreneur is generate new ideas to help the world around me evolve.
