Title: “La Jefa” which means the Boss. I’ve experienced trauma and PTSD in my life. There was a part of my life where I wasn’t the boss of my life; trauma was the boss of my life. So, when I call myself La Jefa, it’s me getting my control back.
Married/Single: I have a super sweet boyfriend, Austin! He’s my Prince Charming.
Kids: A Fur Baby named Ralph
City you live in: Glendale, Arizona
A typical day in my life includes… taking care of my German Shepherd Ralph and creating pieces for my first upcoming solo show, “La Vida Es Un Carnival.”
I was born… in July! I’m a totally sensitive Cancer!
My favorite thing about Arizona… the beautiful, colorful sunsets and saguaros!
I’m listening to… “We Believe” by Red Hot Chili Peppers. Their album, Stadium Arcadium reminds me of a special time in my life.
My family… is SO supportive! They’ve helped me so much with my upcoming solo show and I’m so grateful. Thank You Mom and Dad!
If I could have dinner with anyone, it would be with … California artist and muralist Mr. B Baby. She adds a Latin flair to her art that inspires me and my work.
One thing I cannot live without… My wide-brim hats! I collect them and can’t imagine going out without one.
When I was younger, I wanted to be… a Spice Girl! I think I could’ve pulled it off. Call me Jefa Spice!
I’m inspired by… I’m a 90s baby and TOTALLY inspired by Lisa Frank and Betsey Johnson. They’re SO COOL and I hope to be as creative as them.
The one person who motivates me is… My Mom. She believes in me more than anyone else and always pumps me up!
If I could change anything in the world, it would be… the price of beef jerky. $7 for a bag is crazy!
The perfect day would be… a breezy morning in Pacific Beach, San Diego with my boyfriend. Followed by shopping in my favorite place, Barrio Logan.
My first job was… I was a barista at Paradise Bakery. Not so glam but I learned a lot. I can still make a killer latte.
My favorite escape… San Diego is my home away from home. I always go there when I need to recharge.
My life… is full of paint, glitter and dog hair. Haha
I’m currently working on… One of my 15 never-before-seen pieces for La Vida Es Un Carnival. The piece I’m working on is a little different than others. I’m excited to step out of my comfort zone.
Always… Plan ahead! I’m a scatter brain and have learned this the hard way.
Never… “let the fear of striking out.. keep you from playing the game” a quote from my favorite movie- Cinderella Story with Hillary Duff.

Biggest Dream… To own a pink lowrider with cheetah print seats!
My Pet Peeve(s)… Necklaces on top of turtlenecks! I’m no fashion police but come on! Gross.

Kathryn Sesma ‘La Jefa’ was born and raised in Arizona, growing up in the heart of Phoenix where she currently resides. La Jefa first remembers finding an interest in art at the young age of four. An alumna of St. Mary’s Catholic High School and the University of Arizona, La Jefa credits the deepening of her artistic knowledge to her time at Pima Community College in Tucson. Through her love for baseball, LaJefa has also created pieces for major league baseball players around the league.
