Tax Day Baby understands that money, when organized and tracked, multiplies. The company, created by Stephanie Hastings, solves profit problems and cashflow issues to get businesses the credit and financing they may need, while having a strong tax strategy to legally pay the least amount of taxes. That’s why Tax Day Baby is ‘all things accounting AND more’.
“Having goals is great but having an executable plan to attain those goals is better,” Hastings said. “Tax Day Baby was created to provide entrepreneurs the education, resources, and other accounting pieces to successfully implement and continue on to the exit stage of their business and their happily ever after.”
AZF: What is your “life motto”?
Life is like a bowl of sweet cherries. Every bite has a sweet and worthwhile challenge on the journey, and it only sucks when all you notice are the pits.
AZF: Did you always know that you wanted to be an entrepreneur? If not, when did you realize that it was the right path right for you?
Yes! I’ve always known that I wanted to be an entrepreneur since I was a little girl. If you wanted to be my friend and play at my house, we played “office”, and I was the secretary or the big boss. I loved all things “paperwork” related. I had a little cash register, a calculator, some carbon copy papers (so old school) and pens and notepad. It really was just a matter of time until I turned the game into reality.
AZF: How do you feel best supported?
When I think of how I best feel supported, it makes me a bit emotional. True support to me is accepting and acknowledging that I’m a human being first. I may need a helping hand, a confidante, a frosty beverage, or just to share a warm meal. I’m looking for acceptance in my journey…how I want to support others AND how I need to be supported in return. As a woman, I feel as though I’ve had more than my fair share of trials and tribulations, and I know that I’m not alone in this feeling.
When female entrepreneurs gather close and show their support by giving referrals, collaborating, becoming advocates for one another, and sharing the tips and tricks that they have found most useful…this means all the world to me as a business owner.
AZF: What motivates you to keep going amidst the challenges that come with being an entrepreneur?
Leaving a positive legacy for my sons is what motivates me the most to keep going. Whether they want to follow my line of business, I want them to see that their mom, a smart and capable woman, is creating something special and making a difference in the world.
I’ve had some crazy days, the horrible clients that were soul-sucking and had little redeeming value; I’ve had the moments of absolute terror when I didn’t know when my next invoice would be coming in, and I’ve also had some of the fear that comes from success and not having the capacity to do my level best.
In those challenging moments, which not all business owners will ever even see, it’s building relationships with like-minded business owners and creating collaborations to support one another. It’s being a part of the success conversations that ultimately make business fun, and most of all, makes it the dream that I’ve always envisioned. Besides, when it really comes down to it, it’s more fun when done with others who believe as I believe and want to show up in the world like I want to show up too!
AZF: Describe your perfect Saturday morning.
My perfect Saturday morning is time with my family. It’s waking up at 8 a.m., getting some water with a bit of me-time and sunshine, to go for a quick walk around the block, then getting back to write in my journal to get things off my mind. I’d put my pajamas back on to snuggle with my honey for another hour, then shower and get downstairs for a fun family breakfast with music, waffles, bacon, and eggs! Afterwards, letting our boys pick a fun family activity for the day.
AZF: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to a young entrepreneur who is just starting out?
“Mind your own future.” As a young entrepreneur, I would advise them to just stay focused on their own future, their own race, and remind them that “no” is an entire sentence. By that, I mean don’t compare where you are to where your friend, idol, competitor, or mentor is on their business journey. Pause to remind yourself, often, of the importance of your time and energy.
Stay true to your business goals and what really aligns with those goals, by saying no to what does not serve your vision and mission or that drains you. By minding your own future and monitoring your pace it allows you to celebrate your little and big wins, where you can have a sweeter appreciation for success and for the journey. Staying focused also affords you grace and life-lessons that are uniquely yours.
AZF: What excites you most about being an entrepreneur?
Lately, what excites me most about being an entrepreneur is being able to expand my expertise and services into a deeper layer of support for my clients. When all the cashflow issues and profit problems are resolved, I’m that resource to utilize so that more money stays in your pocket versus paying an exorbitant amount of taxes. Tax savings is the newest wealth stream!
