After forgetting to reset my alarm from an early call time yesterday, I woke this morning two and a half hours early to a chilly bedroom. Even though I know that our little chill in the air is nothing compared to what most of the rest of the country is going through, it never ceases to amaze me at just how cold we think it is when our friends on both coasts are dealing with blizzards, and icy cold. I have to say, I don’t miss those piles of snow on the side of the streets in New York, especially while dragging my makeup kits up and down those blocks on my way to photoshoots.
Of course here in sunny AZ we face a different dilemma… with the recent burst of cold, coupled with such a short “winter” season, do we drag out that old ratty coat that has been sitting in our closets collecting dust (or worse covered with mothball smell) or do we bite the bullet and buy a new coat that works well with our current temps?
Being the coat fiend that I am, it doesn’t take much convincing for me to take the plunge into the outwear department… So when I saw these oh so cute images of Gwyneth and Sarah Jessica sporting some darling fur trimmed coats without looking like the stay puff marshmallow man, I knew I had hit the jackpot in finding perfect cold weather pieces.
A few tips to keep in mind when buying a coat, always look for a silhouette that nips in at the waist to keep you from looking like Ralphie’s little brother Randy in the holiday movie A Christmas Story. Always be sure that shoulders fit properly and that you have enough room to move even if you layer a thick sweater underneath. Just because you wear a more snug fit, doesn’t necessarily mean that you will look slimmer!
How about this sweet little number from Marc by Marc Jacobs? Aptly called the “Parker” It’s a bit of an investment at just under $700 but it’s totally chic and functional at the same time. Shopbop.com

And I just love this Marc New York “Horizon” coat for a steal at just under $150. You can find it at Nordstrom or Nordstrom.com
