Close your eyes and picture a house butted against a towering mountain. You feel like the only one in the world being so close to the sky, not seeing anyone or anything other than nature in the distance. Yes, heaven is a place on earth, and I found it in Patagonia.
The then BF (now fiancé!) and I wanted to escape the Valley madness for the weekend, so he graciously got the keys to a co-worker’s Patty-G pad. We then took the 3-hour drive past Tucson to the little town nearly bordering Mexico.
The final 45 minutes of our ride was through the mountains—mountains I didn’t expect to see in Arizona. (They are so NOT desert-like!) I felt as if we were entering our own private world full of wonderful nothing.
Then we embarked on the house. We made our way up the windy dirt road, climbing higher, higher, and higher. That’s when we arrived…and we instantly found our Zen. The house is surreal, Spanish-inspired with a modern twist…a colorful kitchen, a welcoming living room, and a chic master with a plush and inviting bed. But the high-light was outside…our view, the most enjoyable silence, a BBQ, and a hot tub overlooking the mountains. We spent the evening watching the sunset, cooking, drinking, and playing cards. We slept like babies.
The following day we ventured to Sierra Vista, where we opted for a long hike. It was challenging; yet rewarding—and most of all, stunning.
We deserved our margaritas later that night.
Our 2-night stay in Patagonia reintroduced us to the simplicity of a harmonious life. Definitely add Patty-G to your bucket list--it’s surely worth a day trip.
