As for our weather gal, Katie Baker…well, she prefers Flag.  While it’s not quite a state secret, Flagstaff was a fabulous 4th of July escape for Katie and her family.  Yep, they beat that 118-degree weekend and ventured to AZ’s magical mountain town.

Their first stop was Lake Mary—that’s where Katie’s kids enjoyed dipping their feet in the refreshing water.

For dinner, the Baker fam dined at the Lumberyard Brewing Company, right next to the train tracks.  Her son was fascinated with the trains passing through town; in fact, he spent nearly a half hour mesmerized by the restaurant’s action-packed view.

And spoken like a true meteorologist, Katie says they enjoyed free entertainment on their ride home—thunderstorms.  Not a bad way to end a fun-filled family getaway.

And who could deny AZ’s famous Whiskey Row?  That’s where you can sometimes find CBS-5’s Paul Horton—in Prescott.  The adorable town is only 100 miles from the Valley, and preserves the historical charm of Arizona.  Prescott was founded in 1864, and a lot of the original buildings still grace the downtown streets.  If you miss fall colors, Prescott is the place to be—Paul says now is the perfect time to embrace the autumn season.  Whiskey Row has an array of awesome cowboy bars, and you can fill your tummy at Paul’s favorite eatery, the Palace Restaurant and Saloon.  (Order a burger!)  And if you want to get in touch with your inner cowboy (or girl), check out the World’s Largest Rodeo over 4th of July weekend.

And now it’s my turn.  There’s nothing like getting in the car and skipping town to a place where you feel truly at one with nature.
