The bell is back.  Get ready to go through mom's closet and rock 1970s style.  Here's what every fashionista needs to know for fall 2011 fashion.

It’s the official start of fall, even though summer temps are still soaking up the Valley.  Despite the warm sun, it’s time to welcome new autumn attire; but as it turns out, fashion is not really evolving…this season fashion is traveling back in time.

Consider 2011 the new 1970; however, many of us fashionistas weren’t alive to witness the savvy look years ago.  That’s why we’re offering insight into 70s fashion, explaining how you can capture that sophisticated, trendy look.

Here’s what the hottest fashion designers want you to know.

Many of us are aware that 70s scream bell bottoms.  That means those skinny pants you recently stocked up on are being replaced by flared attire.  Yep, bells are back—once again emerging in the fabulous world of fashion.  The reason why they’re popping up in store shelves is because skinny-jean haters have been craving an alternative. This season, seek jeans or trousers with a slightly wider boot cut equipped with a slimmer thigh making the hemline more visible.

But if you’re not into bells, be a little daring—try wide leg pants.  This anti-skinny style is relaxed; yet, sharp—perfect for a modern lean woman.  Palazzo pants are part of the wide-leg family—they’re the ones that are light and flowy.  Consider fabrics like silk, crepe, or jersey.

During the day, you’ll want to secure your bells or Palazzos with belts, and match them with beautiful bow-blouses—you know, the ones with big sleeves.  (Look for satin.)  Add beaded necklaces to any outfit for some 70s flare, and if you’re feeling a little juicy, taste-test a jumpsuit.

At night, kick things up a notch.  Attention-grabbing fabrics are hot for any A-lister hitting the town—look for sheen disco-like fabrics like lurex or metallic.  Ruffled necklines are quite hot—wear one under a blazer or tux jacket.  And if you’re really looking to dress up, consider long gowns with low necklines…it’s the ultimate 1970s glamour look.

And here’s a 70s-style your man will love: plunging necklines.  Yes, get ready to rock some cleavage—TASTEFULLY. Simply put, this fab fad is a deep V-cut that ends somewhere between the breastbone and naval.  If you can’t go braless, consider a catchy undergarment to wear underneath the trendy top.  Make it visible—leopard print is a good way to go.

No doubt, you’ll surely spot pleats cruising though Fashion Square Mall.  The flared-effect makes quite a bold statement, especially if you’re sporting rich fall colors like purple or red.  This season, a pleated maxi dress is totally in, but if maxis are a little much, consider something knee-length.

And while we live in the desert, we can still sport some cold-weather trends.  While fur stirs controversy, it’s definitely a must-have for autumn 2011.  Try something faux or real in the form of a vest.  You’ll also see simple coats and jackets lined with the comfy trimming.

Ok, don’t know how much I personally like this one, but the girly tux is in.  However, be keen on capturing this trend.  Go for wide, peaked lapels or velvet jackets.

And of course, no 1970s outfit is complete without accessories.  Leather is the hot harness of choice—definitely purchase one of these types of purses.  In relation, you’ll want to stock up on big leather belts—it’s an ultra-70s way to spice up a maxi dress.  And don’t get rid of your boots from last season—they’ll be just fine under your bells or wide-legged pants.

As for jewelry, bring on the bling!  Keep it clean, but bold.  Try rocking rings, bangles, and long pendant necklaces.  Top things off with a 70s-inspired hairdo…go for a sleek bob, bouncy curls, or long, flowy hair.
