Rachel Roland is a mom on a mission - exploring beautiful Arizona (and beyond!) with her two little companions, Jeremiah and Sarah, in search of the best restaurants, attractions, and products for you and your children. See what she has in store for your family today!

One of the great aspects of living in the Phoenix area is that within a few hours, you can travel to so many places that really feel like you've flown to another state.  It's so fun to travel and explore, especially as a family so your children can start to appreciate all the aspects of our beautiful state as well as enjoying 'the journey' it takes to arrive there!

We started our day with a trip to Date Creek Ranch, where not only you can find local, grassfed beef, but also a lush orchard in the middle of the desert!  It's about a half hour outside of Wickenburg, and it took us about 2 hours to arrive from Central Phoenix.   They were having a little Apple Picking and BBQ festival, and we spent some time picking our own organic Arizona grown apples before enjoying a little early lunch.  Apples and pears are only $1.25/lb and it's easy to get carried away and fill up a box with fruit - make sure you have plans for them apples!

Next, we headed to Prescott, which was another hour and a half up a very curvy mountain road.  As a warning, I would highly encourage you to avoid this trip if you or anyone in your family gets motion or car sickness.  (We learned the hard way with Jeremiah on this trip!  No more winding roads for us.)

Once we arrived in Prescott, our first stop was the large Courthouse Square in the middle of town.  It's always full of people, walking their dogs, having a picnic, and just having fun.  The kids loved running around and playing - and the sounds of the cicadas was so loud, and so different than the cicadas here in the Valley.

We stopped for Ice Cream at the Treat Center on Courthouse Square for a little ice cream refreshment, which the kids loved, and then headed over to the Prescott Brewery for a little early dinner.   After walking around some more, we stopped for a pumpkin latte (one of the best I've had!) at Cuppers coffee and headed home.

A trip to Prescott is so great for the day, or you can stay for the weekend at many of the great accomodations around town.   It takes about two hours to get to Prescott from Phoenix via the 17, and the weather is typically about 10 degrees cooler than Phoenix - and when that's 80 vs 90 degrees, it feels amazing.
