Rachel Roland is a mom on a mission - exploring beautiful Arizona (and beyond!) with her two little companions, Jeremiah and Sarah, in search of the best restaurants, attractions, and products for you and your children. See what she has in store for your family today!

You know you're in for a treat when you can see the crowd waiting to be seated in the 100 degree heat - and it's well worth the wait at Butterfield's Pancake House and Resaurant (and I can only assume at their sister restaurant, Butters Pancakes), both located in Scottsdale.  Being the 'breakfast family' we are, it was only a matter of time before we ended up at the Scottsdale insitution known as Butterfield's Pancake House - and I can see why it is so popular and so loved.

First - the service is downright amazing for a mostly-breakfast joint.  The servers are quick without being short, and prompt without being obnoxious - water was brought, drink orders were taken, as well as food orders - so quickly it almost made your head spin.  But there was no sense of 'get them in, get them out' in the service - everyone we encountered was genuinely helpful and polite.

Secondly, the food and drinks are top-notch.  They have an amazing machine that makes fresh orange juice right in front of everyone, and according to Jeremiah and Sarah, it was fantastic.   I had a mocha, which can be tricky - but Butterfield's was well done and not overly-sweet, like so many can be.  The food has quite a range, but I'd recommend going for the sweet, carb-overload stuff, myself.  I had the White Chocolate Taffy Apple French Toast (pictured above) and it was divine.  I know, it's not exactly the most 'Mom' type food on the menu, but sometimes, want to enjoy something sweet and decadent, too!  The kids split an order of the plain French Toast, topped with Butterfield's own maple syrup - it was equally delicious.

I just had to include this silly photo of Sarah, who adores butter (I actually had to take it away from her after this photo) - but how appropriate at a place called Buttefield's!   The kids really liked the restaurant - the lights come down from waffles, and there's a painting on the ceiling near the entrance of flying pancakes.  We loved it, and we'll definitely be back for more - next time, I'm trying the S'Moreo Cookie Cakes - Oreo cookie crumbles with marshmallow sauce and a chocolate drizzle.  (I eat healthy 90% of the time - we all need to live a little!)

You can visit Butterfield's, too - they're located on Shea Blvd just east of Scottsdale Rd.  Their sister restaurant, Butters (which has a very similar menu) is located on Via de Ventura, just west of Hayden Rd.
