I'm fairly certain I talk about the heat in every column, and let's face it - you and I are pretty aware of how hot it is...still...even in the midst of preparing for sending the kiddos back to school. Maybe some of your kids are already in school (mine doesn't start kindergarten for another couple weeks) but I have a great INDOOR (aka air conditioned) event for you this weekend. Plus, it's a way to stock up on those school supplies that always seem to mysteriously disappear throughout the school year.
The Marriott Cares Carnival will take place this Saturday, August 4th from 10am-2pm at the beautiful JW Marriott Desert Ridge in Phoenix. The first 50 children to attend receive a free backpack, and the $10 admission (for children 3-15, parents are free) covers not only playing fun carnival games (again, indoors!) but also the chance to fill those backpacks with school supplies. Maybe you've already gone school shopping - well, this is the chance to have a fun day out with your children and collect school supplies for a local charity. Or you can always donate them to your children's school - so please don't let already being stocked up on school supplies prevent you from coming out and having fun!
The best part about the Marriott Cares Carnival at Desert Ridge is that it benefits Pheonix Children's Hospital, a resource that we are very fortunate to have here in Phoenix. As you may or may not remember, back in April, my daughter Sarah was a patient here at Phoenix Children's after her tonsils and adenoids were removed. I was impressed with how caring and loving all the staff were, as well as the amazing facilities they had available for their patients healing. From what I've heard, one of the organizers of the event has had a child at PCH, too, and planning this event was one way to show her gratitude!
If you want to have fun and meet Baxter the Bobcat, Ronald McDonald, play in bouncy houses, and try your luck at carnival games (as well as enjoy carnival food and door prizes) head over to the JW Marriott Desert Ridge this Saturday, August 4th from 10am-2pm.
