Two nights earlier, Thursday, Jan. 19, the Bondurants and Craig Jackson auctioned the first-edition Chevrolet Camaro, a partnership of noted car customizer Steve Saleen and Bob Bondurant, at the annual Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction. All money raised benefits Cox Charities, with some proceeds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Arizona.

Addison Brown, of Browns Classic Autos, Scottsdale, Ariz., purchased the vehicle for $100,000 and attended the party. Also enjoying the night was Le Mans, Sebring and Daytona winner Johnny O’Connell, the new vice president of Global Operations at The Bondurant School of High-Performance Driving in Phoenix, and Darren Law, the school’s COO, also a Daytona winner.

The first-edition SMS/Bondurant Camaro 620 produces 620 horsepower-plus and 570 foot pounds of torque, or wheel-turning power, by means of an SMS supercharger with asymmetric multi-lobes.

Equipped with a Borla exhaust and Eibach high-performance suspension, the car features a distinctive yellow exterior with a Saleen butterfly hood and sculpted front fascia utilizing a high-volume lower radiator intake with brake ducts and a custom rear spoiler.

“The Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving sees its share of people with life-threatening illnesses, including children who have our school at the top of their wish lists,” says Bob, legendary road racer and CEO of the world-famous driving school in Phoenix.

“When we got the call asking if we would consider donating the new SMS/Bondurant Camaro 620 and the proceeds to Cox Charities, my wife, Pat and I called Steve, and we took about five minutes to decide,” Bob adds.

“Moments later, the #001 production car was headed in the right direction, Cox Charities, — the single largest charity donation in The Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving’s history.

“It feels great!”
