Local firm PHX Architecture was asked to create a modern residential atmosphere where a final resting place invokes the feeling and warmth of home.  PHX Architecture designed the new complex to include 14 private-patient rooms each with their own patio, a comfortable living room, a private family dining room, and two outdoor patios each with a fountain and fire pit to create a calm relaxed meditative experience. Serenity Sun City will be equipped with a full commercial kitchen for use by guests and families, as well as up-to-date staff and administrative offices.

This is the second facility that PHX Architecture was asked to design. PHX Architecture redesigned the first Serenity Hospice in Central Phoenix that houses 20 patients in private rooms, and radiates warmth and comfort through 60,000 sq. ft of modern design and park-like landscape. The Phoenix location also has two casitas available for families from out of town, or those who want to remain on premises to be closer to their loved ones.

Principal Architect Erik Peterson AIA says, “It was such a great pleasure to work on a second project with the team at Serenity, we learned a lot the first time around, and the Sun City West location will be even better because of our past experience.” Project Architect Maurita Walker AIA adds, “The challenge was to create a project that had specific technical and medical requirements yet still felt like a comfortable home or small resort, and this facility does that very well.” The team also included the Interior design firm of Lawrence Lake Interiors, who designed inviting finishes and furnishings in a residential feel and using a palette of natural and green colors.

Serenity has provided care to over 6,000 patients in the Phoenix Metropolitan area and continues to provide excellent service to patients and families. Serenity Hospice is Medicare Certified and was founded in 2004 by Ruth Siegel; a former nurse with over 15 years of experience.
