The movement and grace flowing through each painting is portrayed through his distinct approach to a muted color palette and pattern method. Carson has perfected his individuality as an artist by introducing new layers of meaning, texture and richness. “I’m bringing what I consider traditional subject matter – the figure- into a more contemporary realm,” Carson says.

The show debuted on November 10th with a successful artist reception and collectors can experience Carson’s work first-hand through November 30th. Collectors will notice that the show is comprised of larger pieces and work is done primarily on wood panel as opposed to the traditional canvas. “It’s a whole different way of painting because it’s so slick. It gives me a whole different quality,” he says. Other exclusive materials include the unique use of resin and toner transfer along with intentional paint drips. “The drips flatten out the piece for you. When you see this drip it throws your thinking off and goes back to the process,” he explains.

What is the significance to the title of the show, “Drawing the Figure Out?” Carson has not only evolved in his material utilization, but his creative processes. “I’m almost drawing with my paint brush,” he adds. “I’ll even allow lines to come through the paint so you can see the stages of the process.” He spends significantly more of his time sketching and drawing which is evident in his new collection.

As an artist, Carson has developed by continuously experimenting with fresh ideas, keeping his art crisp and modern. “I’m influenced by the lack of color out here. My paintings are getting much more stark and much more simplified,” adds Carson. “I’m also doing less happy scenes of people, and spending a lot more time on the drawing of the figure.”
