The Salvation Army is desperately seeking more than 500 additional volunteers to help with all aspects of its annual public Christmas dinner at the South Building of the Phoenix Convention Center.

“The Army is preparing to provide 7,500 meals, nearly 1,500 more than it did for its recent Thanksgiving dinner,” said Major David Yardley, The Salvation Army Metro Phoenix Program Coordinator. “Our Thanksgiving dinner took the efforts of around 900 volunteers, and with more meals expected to be provided on Christmas Day, we hope that the people of our generous community will consider giving a few hours of their time to help us feed the hungry to brighten their holidays.”

It’s easy to sign up to volunteer by visiting SalvationArmyPhoenix.org and clicking on the Volunteer tab.

Volunteers are needed for dinner prep from Monday, Dec. 20 through Christmas morning, with the largest need between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. each day. Nearly 100 volunteers are currently still needed for dinner prep during those hours.

On Christmas Day, around 75 volunteers are currently needed to drive their personal vehicles to help deliver 4,000 meals to our homebound neighbors (two-hour shifts run from 9:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.), and more than 50 volunteers are currently needed to serve meals to guests inside the Phoenix  Convention Center’s South Building from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Around 300 other volunteers are needed as greeters, security team, cleanup crew, and ushers during the Christmas Day dinner.
