Since today is Valentine’s Day, students are planning to spend the day visiting some of their favorite restaurants and watching some highly anticipated movies. Weather you plan to spend Valentine’s Day with a significant other or a best friend, there are a variety of places around the valley to visit. Since we don’t celebrate by decorating Valentine’s Day themed shoe boxes and placing them on our desks at school anymore, I decided to find out what students at Arizona State University are doing for Valentine’s Day.

There are plenty of new movies playing in theaters to watch on Valentine’s Day, but one in particular is perfect for a Valentine’s Day date. The Vow, starring Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams has had my Twitter and Facebook feed buzzing non-stop this past week. The movie is based on the romance of a newly wed couple that gets into a car accident, leaving the wife in a coma and erasing all prior memory of her recent marriage. Weather you plan to go watch a movie with a group of girlfriends, or someone special, The Vow surely won’t disappoint. It is the perfect movie for Valentine’s Day romantics, or even a group of single ladies. When it comes to dining, the valley has some great restaurants to offer. Of course, we all have our regular favorites, but some restaurants around the valley are offering special menus and packages for Valentine’s Day. Bistro 24 at The Ritz-Carlton in Phoenix is offering their Aphrodisiac Dinner, a five-course meal that ranges from oysters, to figs, to truffles priced at $72 a person. Also, one of my favorite restaurants, Blanco in Scottsdale, is also offering a special Valentine’s Day menu.

This Valentine’s Day, some students have said they do plan on celebrating the traditional way with dinner and a movie, but if you don’t have plans yet it’s not too late. A night with your girlfriends is also a great way to celebrate. You can invite your closest friends over, rent your favorite comedy, and relax with some chocolate covered strawberries and drinks. You can also choose to celebrate Single Awareness Day by avoiding the Valentine’s Day mood altogether. Instead of watching a romantic movie and wishing you had a special someone to spend the day with, have a get together at home and watch your favorite scary movie, or go out dancing with your girls. Whether you’re spending Valentine’s Day with a special someone, family, or friends, enjoy and have fun!
