Q: I can’t breathe well out of my nose.  Can this be repaired at the same time as a rhinoplasty to shave the bump on the bridge of my nose?

A: The most common cause of nasal breathing issues is a deviated septum and the treatment of this is called a septoplasty. Breathing problems can also be associated with other physical issues such as a collapsed internal nasal valve or large turbinates. All these possible sources of breathing problems can be addressed at the same time as a rhinoplasty procedure to shape your nose. In my rhinoplasty practice, I do not separate function of the nose and shape of the nose since correction of both is ultimately going to provide the best result.

Q: I want to get rid of the discolored bags under my eyes, what procedures are best for that?

A:  The dark circles under the lower eyelids can be caused by a number of different issues including thinning of the fat under the skin, increase in pigment of the skin, and shadowing of the fat pads above.  Fat transfer and lower eyelid blepharoplasty both can help with improving the presence of dark circles under the eyes.

Q:  Whats the best way to improve the appearance of my eyes?  I always look tired.

A:  Thank you for the question.  The “eyes are the windows unto the soul” and as such tired looking eyes will make us seem like we are tired souls.  Many options for rejuvenation of the eyes are available depending on each individuals needs.  The most common options for peri-ocular (around the eyes) rejuvenation includes:

-fat grafting

-eye lid lift

-skin resurfacing

These three procedures when used in combination and to the proper amount can truly improve the shape and appearance of the eye area.

All the best,

Dr. Remus Repta
