Grocery Greats: Fiber Cereal

In this Grocery Greats segment, ForXx is seeking out the tastiest and most filling fiber cereals.

FiberOne by General Mills: At first glance, the box can be a little intimidating with the word fiber so big and bold. No fiber taste here. It tastes a lot like small pieces of buttery pound cake. 80 calories for ¾ cup. 2g soluble and 8g insoluble fiber.
Shredded Wheat Squares by Post: The cereal’s claim to fame is that its ingredient list is so good they have nothing to hide. Unfortunately, it tastes like cardboard. Flavorless and dry even in milk. About 200 calories per 1 ¼ cup.  2g soluble and 7g insoluble fiber.
Fiber Plus by Kellogg’s: Rich in antioxidants, I chose the Berry Yogurt Crunch with vitamins C and E. It has 25g of whole grain with the Heart Healthy stamp of approval right on the box. Great flavor for a fiber cereal. The yogurt isn’t overbearing and the flakes are generously sized. 170 calories per 1 cup. (Perfect, since you should consume at least 300 calories per meal.) 4g soluble and 6g insoluble fiber.
This week’s Grocery Great: Fiber Plus by Kellogg’s.
Note:
Soluble fibers attract water and forms a gel, which slows down digestion. Soluble fiber delays the emptying of your stomach and makes you feel full. Insoluble fibers are considered gut-healthy fiber because they have a laxative effect and add bulk to the diet, helping prevent constipation.
