Need a little skin refresher now that the temps are in the 100’s? Sarah Quinn, nurse practitioner at Arcadia Wellness Center, offers up two easy peasy recipes for DIY treatments for glowing, bright, beautiful skin.
1) To hydrate and nourish
A flaky, dry forehead is not your best look, but if your current moisturizer isn’t doing much to quench your dry skin, look no further than this trio to hydrate and nourish.
What You Need:
1/2 of a ripe banana
1 T raw honey
1/2 tsp. lemon juice
How It Works:
This DIY mask contains moisture, potassium, and vitamins E and C, which all promote clear, glowing skin. First mash banana with a fork and honey and lemon juice and apply to dry face. Leave on for 10 minutes then rinse off with a wet cloth or cold water.
2) To brighten and smooth skin
Redness got you down? Try this DIY mask to brighten and smooth skin for an instant refresh.
What You Need:
1/2 avocado
1 T honey
A handful of oats or oat bran
1/2 tsp. turmeric
1/2 tsp. sea salt
How It Works:
Honey is an excellent humectant, which means it helps skin retain moisture without feeling oily – but that’s not all. It’s also a wonder ingredient; when massaged on to affected areas, it helps minimize the appearance of scars and increases both healing and tissue regeneration. While turmeric is brilliant at bringing down redness, it’s also anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial. Incorporating sea salt will also help to smooth, clean, and reduce inflammation and infection (acne).
Combine all ingredients while smashing the avocado. Apply mixture to clean, dry fact and leave for 15 minutes. Wipe with wet cloth or splash with water to remove.
