A typical day in my life includes…

rising at 4am. I’ll journal and read while enjoying a cup of black coffee (ok, maybe 2 cups). Then I’ll meditate for at least 5 minutes before I’m ready to enter into my screen time (which takes up the majority of my day). As a mom to a teenager, my duties now mostly consist of overseeing that he gets up and gets himself off to school on time. I then head to the gym for a workout. My days consist of a lot of screen time including writing, social media management, and website/course development. Growing the I Kicked Sugar online business and tribe of fearless women keeps me busy. In the evening I’ll roast up some veggies for dinner and usually call it a day by snuggling into my fuzzy avocado pjs and bed by 7pm. Lights out at 8:30pm!

I was born

in a small little New England town in Connecticut, called Rockville.

My favorite thing about Arizona…

do I dare say the HEAT? Ok, and the mountains and desert sunsets.

I’m listening to…

a podcast. My favs are The Doctor’s FARMACY, NPR, TED Radio Hour, Armchair Expert, The Rich Roll Podcast, The Rise Again Podcast, Oprah’s Super Soul Conversations, and Hidden Brain.

My family…

is very close-knit. We are each other’s strength and security.

If I could have dinner with anyone, it would be

Dr. Robert Lustig, M.D., who is known for being the global leader of the “anti-sugar” and “real food” movement.

One thing I cannot live without…

avocados!

When I was younger, I wanted to be…

a motivational speaker!

I’m inspired by…

hearing other people’s stories who have overcome adversities and created a healthy, happy successful life for themselves.

The one person who motivates me is…

my sister, Tracey. She got early-onset Type 1 diabetes 30 years ago. Witnessing her never taking a victim stance and knowing that over 100 million Americans have diabetes or pre-diabetes, motivates me to want to educate and inspire others to change their diet and kick sugar!

If I could change anything in the world, it would be…

our food system. As it stands now, it’s slowly killing our environment and us. We need to fix the current Farm Bill and embrace regenerative and sustainable agriculture and polices to improve public health.

The perfect day would be…

alone by myself in a house in the woods by a river writing with no interruptions, but delicious gourmet plant-based food that’s prepared for me.

My first job was…

working in a fabric store in a mall.

My favorite escape…

being out in nature with NO cell phones.

My life…

is about learning, growing and having fun along the way.

I’m currently working on…

OMG SO MUCH…I need an intern. Some of the big things are finalizing the audiobook version of the I Kicked Sugar Course, a TV segment for Fox 10 News, and formatting my course for a print version.

Always…

believe in yourself and do the hard work. That’s where the magic lies.

Never…

GIVE UP and know you are not alone!

Favorite Quote…

“Let food be thy medicine.”

Biggest Dream…

do a Ted Talk on the detriments of sugar and continue to educate, serve and hopefully inspire as many women as I can to know just how amazing they are and that they too can live a healthy and happy life.

My Pet Peeve(s)…

advertising promoting sugar, processed foods and pharmaceutical drugs!

More About I Kicked Sugar …

after kicking sugar 4 years ago, Joyce saw just how serious sugar addiction is and that it is now a global epidemic. Out of the endless encounters of her sharing her story with other women she soon discovered others struggled also with sugar and processed food, while tormenting themselves with self-abusive language, hence the I Kicked Sugar Course was born.

She created a self-paced 10 module course that teaches women the science and psychology of why they eat and crave sugar, the emotions, and circumstances that keep them eating, and finally the way out. Joyce says, “I want to empower women with their eating habits and let them know they aren’t alone. Whether they’re looking to kick their soda habit, morning muffin fix, or kick it all out my course can help.”
