Foundress Fridays: Meet Anne Swanson, Founder of 205 South Interiors

205 South Interiors believes a home should feel lived in, loved, and deeply personal. Owner Anne Swanson takes the time to understand how clients move through their spaces and how they want to feel within them. From there, the team blends creativity with practical solutions to bring a fresh perspective to every project.

“While form and function always guide my work, I love incorporating unique pieces that add interest, drama, and just the right amount of personality,” Swanson said.

AZF: What is your “life motto”?

If something scares you, that’s your sign to step toward it. It’s rarely the easiest path, but it’s always the one that leads to the most growth. It’s incredible what you can accomplish when you quiet the fear and move forward.

AZF: Did you always know that you wanted to be an entrepreneur? If not, when did you realize that it was the right path for you?

Honestly, no. For a long time, I didn’t allow myself to think that big. But over the years, a quiet inner voice kept pushing me toward more creativity, ownership, and possibility. Eventually, it became too loud to ignore, and I realized this was the path I was meant to step into.

AZF: How do you feel best supported?

I’m a very social person, so I feel most supported when I’m able to spend quality time with the people I love. Being around friends and family fills my cup and grounds me, no matter what’s happening in work or life.

AZF: What motivates you to keep going amidst the challenges that come with being an entrepreneur?

That same inner voice that pushed me to start is what keeps me moving. When it comes to design, I’m like a dog with a bone. I stay obsessed until things come to life the way I envision them. Pair that with my personal promise to take on things that scare me, and the path forward becomes surprisingly clear.

AZF: Describe your perfect Saturday morning.

It starts off in a vibey coffee shop with my family and then rolls into a day filled with shopping (furniture, clothes, and all things vintage) and getting together with friends. As much as I claim to want more downtime, I get bored very quickly, so I do best when I’m on the move.

AZF: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to a young entrepreneur who is just starting out?

First, get out of your own way. Fear and self-doubt often become bigger obstacles than anything else you’ll face. Once you learn to quiet that voice, everything else starts to open up. Second, surround yourself with good people who are smarter than you. It will serve you well in both business and life.

AZF: What excites you most about being an entrepreneur?

Creating something from the ground up. Working through details is my happy place, so pouring that energy into a business feels incredibly natural and rewarding. Creating something I care deeply about and then having the privilege to share it with clients is a dream I don’t take for granted.
