Sweet Meets Spicy in Blanco’s Yellow Watermelon and Poblano Margarita

When National Tequila Day (July 24) and National Watermelon Month (July) coincide, there’s only one thing to do: create a watermelon margarita! During the month of July thirsty diners can head to Blanco Tacos and Tequila to enjoy their festive take on the cocktail with the Yellow Watermelon & Poblano Margarita. With a little bit of sweet and a little bit of spicy, this drink is made with fresh yellow watermelon and Ancho Reyes liqueur for a sweet kick.

Order up the delicious concoction during July at Blanco’s two Valley locations, Biltmore Fashion Park and The Borgata. And keep on enjoying the beverage post-July by whipping it up at home with the below recipe.

Yellow Watermelon & Poblano Margarita

  • 4 pc.s Diced yellow watermelon
  • 3 oz. Sour mix (see below)
  • 0.5 oz. Ancho Reyes Original Chile Licor
  • 1 oz. Reposado tequila
  • 3 slices Poblano chile for garnish
  • 0.5 oz. Ancho Reyes Original Chile Licor for float

Sour Mix

  • 2 oz. Lime juice
  • 1 oz. Simple syrup
  • Splash orange juice

Directions: Add watermelon, sour mix, Ancho Reyes and tequila into a shaker with ice. Shake very had and empty into a cocktail glass. Top with Ancho Reyes float and garnish with yellow watermelon and poblano chile slices. Sip and enjoy!
