The weekend is blooming with floral festivities as the University of Arizona Museum of Art features “Bouquets to Art: A Celebration of Floral Artistry.” These collections of dynamic floral arrangements dramatize the museum's renowned artwork.

Reserved guests and planned party attire are already anticipating the gala that begins tonight at 6 P.M. highlighting floral designers and a variety of sponsored caterers, including Wines & Spirits & Delectable Edibles, providing food and drink. Opportunities to admire the coinciding mediums of art continue throughout the weekend for the public to appreciate.

Tucson Lifestyle Home and Garden describes the evening soiree as a “biennial extravaganza that once again will delight and dazzle... The floral designers for Bouquets – who range from talented amateurs to longtime professionals – interpret great works of art.” Patrons can expect to experience, for example, floral interpretations using Asiatic lilies, golden roses and French tulips representing “White Bird,” by Milton Avery, “Sun Screen” by Mark Pomilio, and “Drawing C” by Robert Motherwell, as described by Debby Larsen of Home and Garden.

The public exhibition, which starts on Saturday, March 27 at 10 A.M., offers a Floral Dress Gallery, depicting photographs of Bouquets Gala dresses. Then guests have the option to view a demonstration on Rose History – Eons of Rose Petals, followed by a second demonstration Discover Ikebana: Ikebana Flower Arranging. Continuing the festivities the next day, guests are encouraged to wear a hat on Sunday, March 28 (admission fee reduced for those enthusiasts who chose to participate). Throughout the day, the exhibition will provide a children’s workshop, a Designing a Floral Dress presentation, an awards ceremony (categories include People’s, Director’s and Curator’s choice) and tea.

Admission for this weekend will be $8. Proceeds from the Bouquet to Art fundraising event benefit the University of Arizona Museum of Art. Please note that UAMA docent-led tours are available all weekend.
