The latest Arizona golf news comes from the San Tan Valley, where Encanterra will host the 2010 Augie’s Quest Celebrity Golf Classic.

The 2010 event will benefit MDA/ALS research projects. Now in its second year at Encanterra, Shea Homes, developers of Encanterra have shown tremendous support and is committed to Augie’s Quest. In an effort to raise additional awareness and funds for the organization, Shea Homes has added new partners this year including the Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Coyotes.

The tournament, which will be hosted by Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Conor Jackson and Arizona Cardinals punter Ben Graham, will include several other professional athletes and celebrities, and be held Thursday, April 22 with registration beginning at 11:30 a.m.

Augie’s Quest is a division of the Muscular Dystrophy Association led by fitness mogul Augustine (Augie) Nieto. In March 2005, Augie was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), or more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Since then, Augie has worked to raise more than $21 million to fund MDA/ALS disease research.

In only its fourth year, the Augie’s Quest Celebrity Golf Classic has come to be recognized as one of the top charity golf events in the Valley of the Sun. To ensure guests of the finest playing experience possible, the field is limited to just 22 four-person teams. However, a very limited number of playing spots remain available to those who would like to participate. For more information or to participate in the tournament, please call 480.496.4530 or visit www.augiesquest.org.

“We couldn’t be more pleased to host this prestigious event,” said Jeff Teich, General Manager at Encanterra. “Having hosted this event in the past, we have seen firsthand what a difference an event like this can make. All of us at Encanterra applaud the work the MDA’s Augie’s Quest research initiative does to fight ALS.”

Encanterra, a Trilogy Country Club, is a private 18-hole championship course with the signature design of former Ryder Cup Captain Tom Lehman. The course boasts an all-too-rare core-style layout, reminiscent of the storied old country clubs of the Southwest. Set with panoramic views of the Superstition and San Tan mountains, the core layout folds the course inwards, away from residences and all distractions. In this way, a heightened golf experience becomes the sole focus. It's a challenging course that rewards careful evaluation of risk, club selection and using the nuances of each hole to an advantage.

In addition to championship-caliber golf, Encanterra offers the signature Trilogy lifestyle in a private country club setting. The entire community exudes the Old-World charm and welcoming ambiance of a Mediterranean countryside village. Yet it affords members a host of decidedly modern luxurious amenities such as a spectacular club with a lush day spa, state-of-the-art fitness facilities and resort-style and junior Olympic swimming pools at the clubs newly opened 60,000+ square foot clubhouse, La Casa. Plus, Encanterra offers an inviting restaurant and café offering everything from inspired world-class dining to convenient casual fare. And, Encanterra will be a community for members of all ages.
